  • Looks like a 1850 O in XF40 and the 1851 O in au 50 grade. i dont see any luster to either ( maybe its the picture) but i would probably pass on them unless the 51 O was at a good price. i like most quarter eagles so for me not to like the 1850 O it is more worn than i care for.

    45 & 40.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • What a Wonderful Giveaway...... 45 & 50 but I would take the 1850-O anyday....it has that "eye appeal"
This is a very dumb ass thread. - Laura Sperber - Tuesday January 09, 2007 11:16 AM image

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
  • From an eye appeal stand point the 1850 seems to be the superior coin to me. I won't hazard a guess as to grades as I am far too inexperienced with gold (especially 19th century branch mint gold). I will say that I voted for the 1850 specifically because it displays a much more even and natural looking color than the 1851, though the 1851 does appear to have a slight advantage with regards to overall detail.

Some more help needed-- am I just imagining it, or does the neck on the -50-O look fatter and "squatier" than the neck on the -51-O? Or are the numbers in the dates just different sizes, making the neck look different? Or am I going crazy?

    1850-O would be my choice.....

I picked this one by a hair over the other one, mainly the reverse for me.....

XF would be my grade guess, but that is really just a guess.....

I prefer the 1850-O, the surfaces look nicer to me. I'll guess the 50-O grades XF-45,
    and the 51-O grades XF-40.

Both look like nice AU55-58. My personal preference would be the crustier 50-O but both are very nice Quarter Eagles.

I have a slight preference for the 50-O, but I would reserve any judgment until I see the coins in hand. Definitely choice AU.

    AU53, AU55

I like the 1850 O, my guess is that it looks better in hand. Nice coins!

i will take the 1850-O. more eye appeal and low mintage.

I think a few of you hit it on the head
    1850 O looks xf-45, while the '51 O has a bit more wear. xf-40

From the wear on the eagles' neck and leg along with the tip of the coronet on both coins and the flat spots in the hair, I couldn't judge either to be close to AU.

For eye appeal, 1850 O is a better looker.

The first one looks just a little better. The image, however, may be a bit bright on the second one.

    XF40 & XF45. I like the 1850-O better because she's smiling!

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
