Security question: Are there any reasons you wouldn't want to make the serial numbers on your slabs

If I posted a scan of a slab with the serial number visible, would I have anything to worry about? Could a dishonest person do something with that information?

How easy is it to get your hands on a serial number? All you need do is go to some shows and copy them.
How much trouble is it to write a short note about the coin’s history or appearance? I would think that true collector would be bubbling over with enthusiasm, but not these top rated guys. No, they tell us nothing.
When you have spent $100 grand or more to build a collection, how can you say that taking pictures is “too expensive?” What a load of crap!
These people should be forced to show that they really own the coins. If they can’t then they should be kicked off the registry or have their scores cut in half.
<< <i>I've wondered, when you see an auction on ebay, if some numbskull would use those serial numbers to create a phoney registry set on PCGS >>
I don't know if somebody would create an entire set, but cert number theft is common. Whenever I sell a registry quality coin on eBay I park it in a set until the new owner has it just to prevent some slimeball from grabbing the number.

<< <i>If a person contacts PCGS and tells them their slab has been hijacked in a bogus set wouldn't it pretty much be his word against the other's word unless he showed it to them personally? >>
When that happens PCGS has the new owner eMail a scan of the slab.

It's a Registry thang.
Everytime I've had problems with people stealing cert numbers to add to their registry set, BJ takes care of it. People tell her they just "borrowed" it so they could see what effect a coin of that grade would have on their set.
BJ has stated she'll kick people out of the PCGS Registry who get caught twice.

People that sort of thing have forgotten about collecting for the joy of collecting.
They are just trying to compete with everybody and anybody to go up a few more rungs.
What benefit a person gets from being way up at the top of the ladder escapes me.

I would like to see PCGS increase their registry set awards criteria to favor those people who take the time to present and market their sets. Looking at a column of MS67 and MS68 coins with no photos does nothing for me....
NGC does it better.........
