Rarity will always serve us well at the time we sell!!!

This one was on my watch list but went just a bit too high for me, though I don't think it's outrageous considering the history of the medal and the absolute rarity.

Tell me what you think.

That one is "SWEET". I don't feel I ever overspend for coins that I really, really, want.image

Edited to add: This one is looking pretty nice to me right now. Not my coin, sellers pic

WOW ... thanks for sharing that one!

A bit out of my league, but definately would be a worthwhile acquisition to a "finest" medal cabinet

Something like 4 others of these have sold in the past year or so. Lots 56 and 57 in Stack's May 2005 sale sold for $3000 and $1900 each (both plus 15%, I think), and both of them had the original boxes to boot. I'm pretty sure there was at least one other on eBay, and I think at least one other, maybe at Bowers?

That seller is putting up some really nice pieces. I don't know whether to be most impressed at the items he's putting up, the prices he's asking for them, or the fact that he's getting bidders at those prices...

something to consider-----starting sometime in the last year, the seller started to market this CD. pictures of many of the items(perhaps all of the items) he's now selling are contained on the CD, so potential buyers should already have good pictures and some relevant pricing information about the eBay listings. the items themselves seem to have been carefully collected with an eye towards rarity and quality. all things considered, the asking prices aren't exhorbitant.

the fly in the ointment with So-Called Dollars is the "number extant" for many of the issues. many of the original mintage figures are nothing but estimates because there has never really been a big market for them from a hobby-wide perspective, they're more of a "specialty" item. hopefully, the new reference will become a reality while things are still strong in the entire coin market. while that may result in higher prices, i assume it will also bringmore material to light than has ever been seen. the past 18 months has been quite phenomenal with more and more difficult medals being offered for sale.
