Dan, the man from Lakeshore got it right in his first post...It is a Libekty half dime (LM-3). (Although, I did have to look at the Heritage site to tell)
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
  • I think the other "error" is saying this coin has VG details. Wish all my VG's looked like this!

  • Dan, you know your stuff!

The amazing thing to me is that both NCS and Heritage catalogers missed that is was a half dime. Crazy.

That's what I was thinking, way too freakin small for a dime.

Now, there is an error in the Heritage listing. They give pricing information and population data for a VF-20 coin. image
  • Thanks for the welcome, Dennis. As you can probably tell from my blank postings above; I haven't quite figured out how to use this mode of communication yet. I've been a lurker for quite some time now, and really enjoy folllowing many of the various threads. I have always enjoyed looking at your inventory selections at the shows; I'll formally "introduce" myself to you at the Thanksgiving Michigan State show (I think you will recognize me). See you and the chicken soon.

  • Dan,

I think I know who you are! I will sell you this rare error coin: an 1800 Dime struck on a Half Dime planchet. It's the only one known to exist!

Yes, it's a half dime. NGC was such a rush to put it that ugly holder that they only got the denomination half right.

It looks like the coin might have crease running from 4 o'clock to 9 o'clock. The picture is pretty fuzzy though.

BTW it's hard to find a half dime from this era that isn't damaged.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • Thanks for the sale offer, Dennis; but I already have two of this variety. One of them has a planchet clip that may make it one of the few known four-cent pieces. Sorry, no photo; I'm just starting to learn to walk with this digital camera and internet stuff. Heaven help me if I ever try to post a photo, I wouldn't know where to begin. I read a past thread that tried it's best to explain the photo posting process in layman's terms, but the lightbulb just didn't come on for me.
