How should I sell a cracked slab

I was going to crack out a coin to put into my personal collection. I started cracking away, and then I got distracted. That was six months ago. I've gotten a different raw coin since then, and now I want to sell the one that's still in the damaged slab. Would you leave the coin in the slab or would you finish the job and sell it as raw? Just curious.
A 1943 copper Lincoln will still only buy a gumball out of the machine, but you can purchase the machine and the store with that same cent.

Leave it in and sell as a damaged slab or send it back to the TPG co. and have it re-holdered.

    Cheers,

  • What does it cost to re-holder? Would it be another standard grading fee? I really don't want to sink much more into this coin before selling it. Thanks.

I think it is a $5.00 charge to reholder a coin.

From the grading sevices page (plus shipping of course):

    Reholder $5 ($10@Shows) approximately 10-20 days; approximately 2 - 3 days at shows

    What is the coin?

Look through your other slabbed coins and then submit this coin and others for reholder. PCGS and NGC both charge $5 and you will pay for shipping both ways. NGC service is lightening fast, while PCGS may take months.

Most holdered coins I buy have scratched plastic that hinders my full enjoyment of the coins, so I ship them to be reholdered.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

sell it on the B/s/t board to someone that is assembling a RAW type collection.image

  • If the holder has obviously been tampered with (If it is obvious that someone was cracking it out) they probably won't reholder. The reason being that they may think there may be a risk that the coin was switched.

and the pertinant questions, and least in my mind ... what is the coin and grade?
