Official Caring Numismatists Christmas Charity & Coin Auction Thread-AKA The B00M Foundation III

For Bottom line results, go straight to Pg 4, 3rd post, after I edit it. Thanx!
I was approached by several people as early as last Month (October) asking if there is going to be a "B00M Foundation III". For someone that has done this for so many years that it has become a huge part of who and what I am, there can only be One answer.
The only way it will ever stop is when I draw my last breath and when that day does come I truly hope you guys keep this going. While I now prefer to call it the "Caring Numismatists at Christmas Charity Drive" for the underprivileged, maybe the Name, "The B00M Foundation" would be a nice way to be remembered when MY time is up, but not right now. I make mention of this Reality called "Death" because in just a bit I will call your attention to whom the very first person was that gave last year. I'll give you a clue. He is no longer with us, OK!?
For all of you that have been around since the first Christmas Charity Drive very little needs to be said but for the benefit of all the newcomers that were not around back in 2003 I MUST explain what this is all about.
Plain and simple, this all started years ago when I was moved by the thought and the sight of little children that were poor and did not nor would they ever know who their Dads were nor did they even know what a Christmas present was.... old timers, shut-ins, the forgotten to whom Life had not dealt such a nice hand. In the blink of an eye any and all of us could become the very same way.
People hold huge family gatherings with feasts fit for Kings while just a few doors down someone sits all alone with no hope of having any semblance of Christmas....no gifts, no Christmas Dinner...NOTHING! There is something just not right about all this. Loneliness is so very sad. It didn't set right with me then and it still does not today and if any of you think that this "Somebody" could never be you, think again. We ALL live very fragile existences and in a split second, everything as we know it could change forever. For many, this is the most depressing time of the year and Suicide increases dramatically.
The first year was tough because I was new here and a lot of people totally misjudged me. Being I was new, in hindsight, I cannot say that I blame anyone for thinking ill of me as it seems there had been others before me that had proven to be "Liars, Scammers and Thieves." I got called these names and worse and yes, it hurt. Seeking only to share a longtime tradition with my fellow collectors, somehow I was instantly judged and condemned on the spot but I choose to forget that and to remember that against all odds, the first Charity Drive HERE did come to fruition. I was very proud to stay the course and to face all this adversity like a man...... and then there was last year, the likes of which I could have never foreseen. To top it all off, MadMarty and Russ held an auction and for whatever reason it was voted on by all to donate the proceeds, $810 from that auction, to this Drive. THAT was overwhelming and not something I'll soon forget.
I did my best to keep track of all the Names and here they are and I want you to notice who the very first person to give from the heart was.

All these people gave and every last dime went to the most needing people I could find starting with some people that were so poor that they didn't even have chairs to sit in or a bed to sleep in. One of our donations is on record in last year's thread right before my computer went South on me as it seems someone sent me a gift of a very different kind.
This was done anonymously (the only one that knew was the Bank's Manager)...that's the whole idea....to give anonymously, without fanfare or seeking any sort of recognition. It's NOT about making the newspaper or the local Television News at 6:00 and 10:00...NOT AT ALL.
Like pictures etched in my brain I still recall putting a very nice, very warm, brand new coat on the back of a woman that had a houseful of children and had to work several jobs to support them because their Dad was nowhere to be found and she, like many Mothers of like kind, would go without, depriving herself for the sake of her children. Looking into the eyes of little kids as they gazed up at me in utter amazement at this man who gave them presents, giving to the forgotten that looked at me with tears in their eyes.... THAT is what this is all about and reward enough.
These images will stay with me for the rest of my life. There is much truth in the saying that it is far better to give than to receive. Try it sometime on a one on one basis with someone you don't even know and will probably never ever see again in your life and then tell me about it, OK? But a poor family a Turkey and all the fixings, park down the street, bang on the door leaving the bag in plain sight and then run like the wind, get in your car and just watch their reactions. Experience what it feels like to do something genuinely nice in total obscurity. I tell you, NOTHING COMPARES WITH IT.
Last year, all tolled, including the tremendous gift from MadMary's and Russ' Auction, YOU ALL RAISED A GRAND TOTAL of $2500 and every last dime of it went to the most needy people I could find. I must say, NEVER was I prouder to have been associated with such a fine group of people as I was with you. I witnessed the Miracle of Christmas right here amongst the fellow collectors and dealers associated with these PCGS Message Boards. Some, that had lambasted me the year before, gave without batting an eye ONE YEAR LATER. I have never seen such a tremendous outpouring of pure, unadulterated generosity in all my life.
NO....THIS IS NO LONGER MY CHARITY, IT IS YOURS. I just get to do all the Grunt work and to play a real life Santa Claus. Everything is on the level here, I assure you....but then I believe you already know this as the results speak for themselves.
So there you have it. If you're new and were not here last year, feel free to ask around. Look at the Names on the list. ASK THEM. ASK ANYONE ON THAT LIST WHETHER YOU KNOW THEM OR NOT. These generous souls will NEVER be forgotten. It's Pure...it's simple...it's about helping people you will never know in your lifetime and it's about Trust and Faith in me. Just like last year, I will keep a running total visible and records kept just as noted above. Just as Destiny came for our friend Frank, it most certainly will come for you and me.
My State has literally been devastated on both sides of me....both the Western and Eastern boundaries of Louisiana have been destroyed (I MEAN LITERALLY WIPED OUT) by two Cat 5 Hurricanes. I am, sitting right in the middle lengthwise of the State, about 10 linear miles from the Coast, 25 miles SE of Lafayette, which is on I-10, and people right here, literally in my own backyard, just but a few miles from me, have had their homes completely flooded and have lost everything. Makes me realize that yes, somebody is INDEED watching out for me and has been for a long time. Luck? Coincidence? I don't think so. How can I NOT be grateful and reach out to those in need, moreso this year than ever before?
The donations may be sent thru Pay Pal, if you wish, to quarterguy@bellsouth.net. If you want to set coins aside for auction or send them to me for me to auction, that's OK too. No amount is too big or too small. Any and every thing will be appreciated. This means more to me than you could ever imagine and I wish to once again express my eternal gratitude for your generosity and compassion. Thanx again everyone and Merry Christmas in advance.
To try to simplify things for everyone I have added a link to the Coin Auction associated with the Charity Drive below.

BTW, Thank you Thomas.
I hope this does as it is meant by encouraging help from others to your cause Boom and doesnt distract from it.
I commend you on your efforts for the needy. 2 years ago My Wife and 2 daughters and I gave up our "Family" Christmas Dinner in order to provide one for those that would otherwise have to spend it alone or couldnt afford it. 2 years ago, we fed around 50, Last year that number raised to 69. We are already working on doing this again this year and will have enough food set for 100 people. The joyous feeling from doing this is more than enough repayment if it was just for 1 person that was in need. Again I commend you on your efforts and encourage those others of this forum to help in whatever way they can if they can. I alas will be putting my efforts into food for the meal we prepare and into food baskets via our local Rotary club that I am a member. To be a part of something like this can be more gratifying than any number of gifts you might receive this Christmas. My family plan to continue to do our Dinner as long as the Lord permits.
<< <i>how can WE get PAYPAL to waive the fees on this? >>
I suppose you could create another PayPal account that is a personal one, but then you're limited to receiving $500 per month cash or quasi-cash only. I'll make a donation of some sort, but I sure don't want any of it going to PayPal fees, if possible.

On top of my first donation....I'll pledge another one equal to whatever the final (total) paypal fees are

Anyone wanting to be a part of this is free to do so, free to call upon other entities to donate....to donate any and everything that can raise money for the disadvantaged people to whom life has not been so very kind. We all know people like this. Life owes us but One Guarantee and that is that One Day we will ALL cease to be and it could happen to any one of us in a split second. Our lives as we know them could be changed forever in negative ways or end suddenly and without warning. Just give THAT some SERIOUS thought.
How many here have actually experienced a sudden, traumatic injury, a heart attack, a stroke, a severe auto accident, MAJOR SURGERY and for that ONE MOMENT IN TIME your posessions were the last things on your mind?
Who's to say your heart will beat it's next beat or that you will draw another breath? What's to say that events in anyones' lives couldn't forever change your worlds as you know them? Who's to say that your world could not literally be turned upside down in a split second? When this happens, I ASSURE YOU, no worldly posession will be on your mind. In EVERY LIFE there WILL COME a DEFINING MOMENT, when the chips are down and you're alone looking Death square in the teeth.
This is NOT some high profile Named Charity seeking public recognition. awards, lights and cameras etc. This is pure, unadulterated charitable Compassion for those in the world that either have little or nothing OR have lost everything and are literally clinging to life by a thread.
Recall 9-11. Who, that fateful morning as they prepared themselves for work....who would have ever believed that in a split second they would be TOTALLY erased from the face of the planet and never return home? MAN, THAT'S DEEP. Who knew that they were kissing their Moms and Dads Goodbye for the very last time? I just want to refresh your memories as to whom we are targeting. There will be much good work done in total anonimity. I don't really care for any recognition. This is NOT for show. This is for self gratification on a completely different, much higher level.
I have Hope that one Day this will be recognized as an Official Numismatic Charity on behalf of the entire Numismatic Community BUT by the same token I do NOT want it to grow so large in years to come that we lose focus as to whom and what type people we are targetting.
If you're looking for a picture in the local paper where B00M donated "x" amount of money to some organization that is already well funded....FORGET ABOUT IT.... IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN but THIS you MAY BELIEVE. Every last dime will be stretched just as far as it can be and YOUR contributions will affect the lives of many. It's all about the true Spirit of Christmas and giving without seeking anything in return. We will receive true satisfaction in knowing that we, a handful of Numismatists, have made differences in as many lives as possible.
I'll say it again. This is no longer MY Christmas Charity...IT IS YOURS and I'm proud to do this in ALL of our Names, even the ones that for whatever reason, choose not to give.
Thanx everybody.
Thanks,
David

Excellent total for day 2. C'mon folks, PONY UP! For those that do, your smoke & brew funds for 1 week would make a substantial difference in a person's/family's Christmas. Think bout it.
Tom
Tom
BOOM- did the house of David donate to your noble cause? Maybe they would like to match the final tally?!
I don't think it's too hard for us 'collectors' to pony up a total of at least 5K on this- remember folks- Boom is in a pretty worn out area right now- and some of them folks won't see much relief for a long time to come- his little bit may inspire more than we know.
im a tad short this year, think a sent bout 20 bucks last year and im gonna try to double that this year !
Proof
Just giving means everything, not how much. Some choose to give more, some don't even give at all. I will not stand in judgement of anyone.
If a person is not moved to give at all, that's their perogative and between them and their consciences. NEVER KICK A GIFT HORSE IN THE MOUTH.
Thanx Buddy.
i spent waay too much money on myself this year.
While we all have financial problems from time to time,my life aint all that bad.
Ever see the movie " Pay It Forward " ?
Most of the members here may not be affluent but i suspect everyone could give a buck or 2,give up the starbucks or that DBL cheeseburger for a day or 2,send 10 bucks to Boom.
Can smoebody buy a gift certificate to a grocery store in yur area via the net ?
