All of these dollars chasing fewer and fewer coins...

If money flows into something, then it must be flowing out of something, right?

Where's the money coming from that's fueling the bull market in coins? What AREN'T people spending money on because of their coin collections? Where would peoples' money be if it weren't tied up in coins? In the stock market? In savings? In other hobbies?

What do you think?

What's the time frame for your question? I.e., what period are you refering for comparison purposes?

  • I think a lot of money would be "wasted" on amusement things (movies, theme parks, ect)
  • In the last few years coin prices have increased quite bit (DMPL Morgans, wildly toned pieces, high-grade moderns). It seems as though people are spending much more on coins - and there are a lot more collectors - than there were in the early 90's.

We are in the midst of the largest generational transfer of wealth in history. Expect this to continue for another 10-15 years. The generation dying today was a generation of savers. As such, billions in wealth is being passed on to my generation every year. Unfortunately, my generation is made up of spenders and we are spending this wealth on luxuries, including coins. This in my opinion is fueling the bull market in coins, as well as, all luxury industries. Beware though, in 15 years it will be my generation's turn to leave the planet, and when we leave we won't be leaving wealth to our children. We will leave plenty of debt though.

    Pocket change from the "billionaires."

I agree ... money flowed from stocks to real estate beginning in 1999, and, presently, from real estate to non-traditional investments such as coins, art, etc. In my humble opinion, we have some time yet before money transfers out of coins, if ever. Coins are a good, mobile way to store undocumented wealth. And, with the global proliferation of eBay, easy to liquidate quickly and anonymously.

A REIT I own has had a 35+% annual ROI for the last 3 years. Wish all my investments were that bad. (I sold most of it in the last few months. It can't keep going up like that).

The people who assembled the REIT s are selling properties. REITs aren't what I meant by real estate.
