Just finished my Canadian 50c set

I just bought an 1890-H 50c to finish off the set as found in the Whitman Bookself Album. So, no, I don't have the 1921. The 1890-H is only in AG3 (ICCS) but it will do until something better comes around. These coins aren't offered very often and when they are, they bring very strong money.

    Congrats!

I wouldn't feel the need to include coins not released for general circulation, either.

I have seen a 1921 Canadian half, it was not pretty, but it was real.

I don't have the coin yet but I do have images. This coin has a weak reverse and there is a mark on it. The date is barely visible but ICCS did grade the coin as AG. It will have to do until I can find a Good example.

Are you now going to make a set of coins with a somewhat similar appearance? That is, are you going to get rid of some cleaned coins or high-end coins so that they are all in the same range of circulated grades?

Get rid of the high grades to have a matching circulated set. What a blasphemy! image

Maybe eventually I'll do that. Right now I want to concentrate on filling the Whitman Bookself albums for the 10c and dollar coins.

    Quel' horreur!

When I started my second US Centennial set I decided to remove my blast-white BU coins from the mix and to keep as much as I could in the VF to AU range. I had to make an exception and keep a polished trade dollar variety with AU details amonged the toned, circulated coins only because I can't find an uncleaned one (in fact, I've only seen or heard of a total of five or six for sale over the past 7 years). I can probably put it in a sulphur-infused, brown paper envelope and leave it to retone.

I do have a few problem coins in my sets. The 50c set has a 1932 coin that has initials lightly scratched in it. And a few of the coins are cleaned. But to replace the 1932 would cost me in the area of $140. I'm glad I bought my 1926 Far 6 5c a few years ago. That coin has gone way up in price.
