Coin show report and pleasant meeting

This was the first day of the Annual State Show of SC held in Greenville SC. I arrived in time to be there when the bourse opened and made my first trip around to review the material being offered. Toward the end of my tour I was stopped in my tracks by an 1887 GB 5 pound gold, graded MS66 by PCGS. The dealer was busy so after drooling for a bit longer, I moved on. Later in the day as I was about to leave I went back for one last look. The dealer was not busy and came over and asks if he could help me. I explained that I was just "window-shopping" since this coin was entirely out of my budget. His reply - "That's ok, lets get it out so we can really look at because it's a great coin". After looking at it closely, I thanked him and was about to move on when he brought out a GB Noble which he said he especially liked and then a Swiss Helvetia which we both agreed has one of the top 10 obverses of all time.
By this time I finally realized whose table I was at; Gold Rush Gallery, Inc. and I mentioned that I was a Forum member. I made a joke about RYK being so enthusiastic about them and he informed me that he was Dahlonega on the forum. This of course led to a discussion of Dahlonega gold and I was shown a $2 1/2 liberty and the $1 1861 pedigreed to Eliasberg. I also met Al Adams who arrived while we were talking.
While I bought nothing at the show, I feel it was worth my time just to have met these two fine gentlemen and to have seen these great coins. And to RYK and Fatman, yes you were discussed

Obviously, I am joking. Spending time at the GRG table with Dahlonega is about the most fun you can have at a coin show.
Check out the Southern Gold Society
Mine would say, "Russ went to a coin show, and all he brought me home was this lousy t-shirt."
<< <i>Fatman, yes you were discussed >>
I suggest to you it was all lies.
Sounds like you got the typical GRG treatment. You got to play with a couple of biguns in the Eliasberg 1861-D $1 MS63 and the 1856-D Qtr Eagle AU58. Both of these are Dahlonega dream pieces. The 61-D $1 was minted by the Confederacy and 1856-D $2.5 has a mintage of 874. I know the Eliasberg $1 is the second finest known. The 56-D $2.5 is probably a 3 or 4 condition census.
<< <i> Maybe each of the forum members should get T-shirts made so we can recognize one another at these shows.

No.....it would have to say, "Russ went to a coin show, and I still had to buy my own lousy t-shirt."
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
