ANACS Prooflike Gold Coins?

I own a few ANACS PL Gold coins (in lower uncirculated grades) and am wondering how common these are? Yes, they are baggy and yes, the prooflike surfaces magnify each mark, but I sure do like the mirror backgrounds!

They are MUCH more Rare than most people realize.

    I only have (1): an MS-62PL
  • They are not common enough that I have had my fill of looking at them. In fact I could use a dose right now. Does anybody have any photos of PL gold?

I need one. I bought one on eBay last year that was in a NTC holder image but it looked PL from the picture.

The bad news was the package arrived ripped open without any coins.

The good news was the PO paid the insurance claim

Here's a 1907-S $20 Liberty in PCGS MS-63 which appears PL to me, although PCGS does not designate PL for this type series (at least they didn't when I had her graded about a year ago).

I recently submitted a “Proof-Like” Double Eagle in low uncirculated grade to ANACS in hopes of getting the PL designation. Unfortunately my wish was not granted.

Does anyone think the 1876 was deserving of PL status?

I don't know how they determine PL from 'near PL' status, but I like your coin very much! Is it for sale???

This is my best, 1905 Lewis and Clark Commemorative gold, NGC MS64PL pop 4/2/0. The die polish lines are very evident. My coin is the best looking of the four NGC PLs.

I own the 1850 PL double liberty described on the CoinFacts site which is designated as a "Presentation Piece" since there are no official records from the mint as to number of proofs, minted for the first year of the double eagle, excepting the one in the Smithsonian from 1849. The coin is attributed to Dr. C.W. Green and CoinFacts identifies it as possibly unique. Breen refererences the coin in his cataloguing of proof gold, but states he never had the opportunity to see it in person.PR62 $20 1850 "Presentation Piece" image

I had a pretty little 1873 gold dollar in an ANACS MS60 PL holder. It was far nicer to the eye than the technical MS60 grade would imply.

It was stolen from my case along with a 1901 PCGS MS61 $10 Liberty. image

I assume your 1873 was open 3. I have a very nice NGC 62PL in that coin, the first NGC PL gold dollar I bought. It is one of the most affordable gold dollars in PL. Looking at ones reflection in the coin makes one look like he has been out in the sun a lot.image

It's hard to tell if the coin is a P-l from the photo, but my initial reaction would be that it is. The bad news is that I think that it's no better than an AU-55 because of the friction in the fields. I'm usually pretty tough on gold.
