Quit the hobby

Thanks to everyone here for the knowledge and advice. I burried what remained of my collection after selling most of it off. Who knows, maybe some kid wil find it and start his/her own collection someday.

    Buried as in the ground?

    Any specific coordinates would suffice...

Have you lost your marbles or just lost a love for collecting coins? I'll go with the marbles, because burying your remaining collection is not the act of the most sane person. LOL!

I wish you well. May you find joy in something else now.

Sorry to hear this . image It would not be true if it was said that collecting coins was all a bed of roses or just some tip toe trip through the tullip patch. Hope you find another interesting hobby, or
better yet get bit by the coin bug AGAIN !! image

Don't worry. He'll be back. Once bitten by the coin collecting bug, there is no cure.

That took some real guts man!

    I wish I could quit!

    I just can't though.

Whenever I have a couple thousand I don't know what to do with... BAM!!! I spend the lot of it on some Barber quarter or some double eagle. You're the smart one fella!

I should just follow your lead and sell the good stuff in my collection and bury the junk.

I tryed quitting several times now, because the wife's jealousy, Ebay scams, unprofessional dealers/clients.. Ill never quit though...Love buying/selling those coins.. Never give up something you loveimage

That's a good one. If I couldn't sell my coins I would probably do the same thing. Then dealer will think they will get a bargain but they won't. How come I didn't think of that.

I'm sorry you are quitting the hobby. image Sometimes I feel like quitting soccer. One game last year I scored 3 goals then my coach made me play goalie and the other team scored 3 goals. image I wanted to quit then. But I'm glad i didn't now. Some times when i have to practice piano every day i want to quit. But then when people hear me play and they really like it I'm glad I didn't.

But if you already buried your collection, My dad has a GPS and I got a metal detector last year for christmas. Maybe you could PM the coordinates (i learned that word watching Star TRek image) and I could try and find it? image

Good plan, Samuel. And his idea could be a new model for collectors who quit. Burying their collections in their yards would make for endless enjoyment for future MDers. Like the Ancient Romans who buried their ancient coins in ancient holes, which now allows for American yuppies to dig them up and sell them for $9.99 per handful on ebay. Thousands of years from now collectors will only have to travel to Ancient Suburbia to find treasure. Those SAE's should have toned nicely by then.image
