I Hate EBAY Spam!

Just about to pull the trigger on this one until I saw that title and card were different...a PSA 9 Williams graded by GAI!

58 Ted Williams GAI not PSA

Spoke to EBAY...they don't care.

I can't believe Ebay wouldn't care about that - it is blatant keyword spamming, and the auction title lists something that is not actually for sale.

And, the sleazy seller quotes SMR value in the auction - GAI cards have no SMR value! What a shame.

Frank, ebay will usually discontinue the auctions..

use this link and choose "report a listing violation" then it will give you the option of choosing "improper keywords".. ive seen them pull auctions before when somebody tried PSA in the title.. example (read his description)..

So far - the auction has not been pulled / changed. image

  • I remember a time....and I'm going back 6 years or so..

That I had an auction, that in the description said...."unopened..guaranteed unsearched material.....perfect for PSA and grading.....you could pull the Ryan's and Hendersons and double your $$$"

I actually got an email from the Ebay police for misleading bidders....because..."there is NO PSA meterial in my auction".....and the fact that the Ryan and Henderson were not guaranteed....it was violation of the Ebay listing rules....

Well.....1st of all...the auction was for 4- 1981 Fleer vending boxes....that makes 3 complete sets...so...YES the Ryans and Hendersons WERE guaranteed.......
and well......I didn't know at the time that promoting PSA was a bad thing......

    MAN..have times changed huh!!!!

Now you have to read EVERY word..or every title and description to make sure you're actually bidding on what you think you're bidding on........

I never thought I'd say this....but I MISS the Ebay police!! Can you say too big for their own good!!!??!!

<< <i>Well.....1st of all...the auction was for 4- 1981 Fleer vending boxes....that makes 3 complete sets...so...YES the Ryans and Hendersons WERE guaranteed....... >>

Just to play devil's advocate, would you have been willing to bet your life, or your wife's life, or your mother's life that those vending boxes absolutely had a Ryan and a Henderson? If four boxes make three sets, then clearly each box is short some cards. It may be semantics, but guaranteed means guaranteed, not pretty darned sure probably guaranteed.

I guess the reason I got stuck on that was because wrong is wrong - nothing personal. Just admit it and move on instead of justifying the mistake. And I think you're right, 6 years ago the ebay police were much more diligently enforcing the rules.

As far as the subject of this thread goes - the dude has some damn nice cards. Too bad he felt he had to overhype them.

  • Isnt there a saying judge the card not the holder, Card looks sweet to me

I have no problem with his add.

A true collector wouldnt have any problem with owning this card image
  • pandrewspandrews Posts: 7,598 ✭✭✭
it may also just be a mistake by the seller.. he has all of his other cards titled appropriately and without keyword spamming..
    ·p_A·
  • Morrellman.....YES...100% GUARANTEED.....I will bet my life...my kids life...my mothers life and yours for that matter....that the boxes had the cards!!! They came from a factory direct vending case.....so I'm NOT trying to justify anything....

Have you ever opened 1981 Fleer vending???? Obviously not, as your ignorance comes out in your statements!! The boxes are each numbered 1,2,3,4 a box of each makes 3 COMPLETE sets...and you have 20 dupes left over.....so it's not mathmatically possible for ANY THING to be missing.....

Sorry folks....but it makes me furious when people talk here...just to talk........

If you've got anything to say.....atleast type an INFORMED opinion....
  • ~jeez, have a drink there Clemente. I would need scientific proof to back that up~

  • << <i>Sorry folks....but it makes me furious when people talk here...just to talk........

I do not accept your apology. Maybe when you've been here longer than a month you'll understand.
  • I'll have to agree here. I know Mark (morrellman) and he is very well informed when it comes to cards across the board. He just asked a question about the guarantee of pulling certain cards. It's great that you are an expert on the '81 Fleer set, but most here are not.

    Take it easy man!

i also do not accept your apology and I now declare you as a full-fledged moron.

  • 1st off....."I" was the one called under fire here....
So did I fire back...heck yah....

"If four boxes make three sets, then clearly each box is short some cards. It may be semantics, but guaranteed means guaranteed, not pretty darned sure probably guaranteed"

HE questioned MY ethics and professionalism.....the statement above was clearly WRONG on his part....not mine...

    As for apologizing.....I'M NOT!!!!
And for being here a month........let me give you alittle history...

I've been dealing since the early 80's....had 2 retail stores in MA in the 80's and early 90's....and have been on Ebay for going on 8...yes 8 years (5_stat)!!! NEVER had a neautral....let alone a nagative!!
Recently opened another store here in MA.....and have dealt with the best of the best in the card industry....

So yes, although I recently started posting here....doesn't make me a novice......

All I ask..is that if someone is going to question me....at least have the knowledge to know what you're talking about......
Simply put.......devil's advocate or not......HE came at ME with false info ("I guess the reason I got stuck on that was because wrong is wrong - nothing personal. Just admit it and move on instead of justifying the mistake")

There was no mistake on my part........therefore no apology....

and yes....you can say I'm a moron or whatever.....but those that KNOW me don't have a problem.....

You may be a hobby expert and a fantastic seller but you know nothing about message board etiquette. You are the only one who felt you were under fire and that Morrelman questioned your ethics and professionalism. By defending yourself against imagined slights, you are making yourself look worse.

My advice would be to calm down and play nice in this sandbox or take your capital letters, runs of periods and strings of exclamation points and go home.

    pan,
Do you really think a seller who had a $12000 card miss titles the listing? Also early Fleer vending did exactly what 5stat says. If you had the proper box runs they did make 3 sets out of box 1,2,3 and 4. As did Topps cut card cases make numerous sets with boxes marked A,B,C,D,E,F thru H I believe although I may be a letter or 2 off.

    << <i>pan,

not neccesarily, but the fact is that EVERY other card he has up for auction is titled correctly.. therefore i say it may be a mistake on the sellers part..

Well, if 5sat is a moron, I must be too. I will also say you are also, if your making your foolish and antagonistic comments based on what he stated. Let alone he was right. Everyone thinks they know everything.

me antagonistic? please re-read 5stats posts.. i was commenting on the ridiculously "antagonistic" remarks by 5stat to morrellman.. im not calling him a moron because of his damn 1981 fleer boxes, i dont give 2 squirts of piss whether or not he could be the "foremost expert" on 1981 fleer.. but if you want to associate yourself with him as being a moron, feel free..

    ·p_A·
  • ok, I'll jump in.

If anyone was antogonistic it was Morellman to start with. He shot off at the hip about something he knew nothing about. and was wrong. His brilliance was based on no knowlege of the product or the situation.

but as I can clearly see, shooting off at the mouth about something people know absolutely nothing about..seems to be the common practice here.

All my post stated was that he was wrong, didn't know what HE was talking about and everyone (including me) shouldn't be typing BS about anything that they have no clue on. I just mean, keep it an informed board.

And yes, some may think I'm a moron...so be it

As for chatroom etiquette, the only thing that should prevail is "don't type anything you wouldn't have the stones to say to the persons face". Anyone can sit behind a computer and type dribble all day. This place is worse than a teenage chatroom on aol

With that said, I encourage anyone to go back and reread the thread from start to finish...and tell me "I" started it...

either way, no skin off my back

I can just stop messaging here....I've got much better things to do with my time..

As for gaspipe being a moron....I'm proud to stand by his side...he's done more for this hobby than everyone in this room put together..I'd take him in a foxhole any day over this crowd of jueveniles.

I do not know any of you personally, and have purchased from most of you off Ebay, including you 5stat, but I think you need to thicken you skin a little. Morrelman stated he was just playing devils advocate. He was not being insulting in anyway that I see that this needs to turn into one of the he said this, he said that thread. I hate these stupid threads were everyone starts taking up sides. I think this has gotten blown out of proportion. It was not that big of a deal.

  • pandrewspandrews Posts: 7,598 ✭✭✭
well, as morrellman said, wrong is wrong, and your auctions were not ended because of your "guarantee" but because of your keyword spamming, which is against ebay rules..

<< <i>As for chatroom etiquette, the only thing that should prevail is "don't type anything you wouldn't have the stones to say to the persons face". Anyone can sit behind a computer and type dribble all day. This place is worse than a teenage chatroom on aol >>

oh believe me, i say worse things to peoples faces, simply because it does no good to fight on an interweb message board.. i actually prefer to cuss somebody to their face..

<< <i>I can just stop messaging here....I've got much better things to do with my time.. >>

    that would be nice..

  • 5STAT,
I'd suggest you jump back out. You're not a moron by any means, just a bit too defensive and full of yourself. This thread isn't about you.

    PA,
It's hilarious that you call it the "interweb" like the old man on that commercial. I'm surprised someone who doesn't get the reference hasn't called you a moron yet though.
  • MorrellManMorrellMan Posts: 3,238 ✭✭✭
You know what 5Stat? I usually let flamers just burn themselves up, but some good people are trying to point out the error of your ways and your head appears to be stuck somewhere below your belt, so let me set the record straight:

    A. I know perfectly well that 4 coded boxes were meant to make up 3 sets. Nowhere in your description did you say you were offering 4 CODED boxes - you just said 4 boxes. Therefore, I am right, you are not.

    B. There was nothing antagonistic about my post. If you are so egocentric that you think an impartial observation was meant to belittle you, then your problems are much greater than I think any of us care to deal with.

    C. If you think this post is a personal attack, you are, at last, correct. Get the f**k off my case.

Edited to delete specific anatomical references.

    Well, Good Afternoon.

Statman - I like others agree with what you have presented with respect to 'box collation' but Ebay doesn't know that. They're just protecting the consumer. And spamming - that was 'light call' on their part. But as you said - rules may have been more tightly inforced at one time.

Mark's 'devil's advocate' statement, IMO, was just addressing those issues. I saw it more as a statement about ebay marketing and not directed at your, as such.

This is disappointing - things sometimes get out of hand - there is nothing here that can't be fixed with a sixer of Bud!

buwahahha.. keyboard warrior! you're safe, nobody is gonna waste their damn money time & money to come "discuss" anything with you.. lets just stick with the facts, and the facts are that you took the side of a complete moron (5stat) that flies off the handle over some stupid 1981 fleer boxes and starts calling other proven knowledgeable collectors "ignorant"..

im not one to attack ANYBODY on a friggin message board, but i WILL strike back (type back?) when some dumbass who signed on here last month starts showing his idiocy and trying to make his keyboard look tough at the expense of morrellman, a longtime collector with a broader knowledge about this hobby than 5stat could ever hope for..

however, if when you say "discuss" you actually mean "fight", well, how much does it pay? i'd be interested in hearing how much the winner's purse will be.. i'll always consider a prizefight if it pays well..

otherwise, ive said it before, my mousepad can kick your entire computers ass..
