OPC Hockey PSA 10s (from 1977-81)! Are they that rare or what?

I won (3) 1980-81 O-Pee-Chee PSA 10s tonite. I just do not see PSA 10s hitting the market (i.e., from 1977-78, 1978-79, 1979-80, 1980-81, 1981-82).

The 1982-83 OPC PSA 10s seem to be plentiful, but earlier than that, WHERE ARE THOSE 10s??? I guess their just tough, hey? LOL!

Do you like?

1980-81 OPC #345 Wayne Merrick PSA 10

1980-81 #358 Mike Christie PSA 10

1980-81 OPC #180 Steve Shutt PSA 10

From opening many packs. O-pee-chee hockey 10's should be tough right to 1981-82. Starting with 1982-83 and up the supply was heavier and the quality somewhat better
  • I believe 82-83 and 83-84 were overproduced to make up for the fact that Topps didn't do hockey those years, and yes, the quality was better than in previous years. Do you think OPC may have used Topps' facilities to help with the extra production?

Lets see the Pop Reports for OPC Hockey?

    1977 OPCs: 0650 Graded -- 08 PSA 10s
    1978 OPCs: 0526 Graded -- 06 PSA 10s
    1979 OPCs: 2672 Graded -- 03 PSA 10s
    1980 OPCs: 3049 Graded -- 36 PSA 10s
    1981 OPCs: 1776 Graded -- 10 PSA 10s

Yes I like them! By the way, if you have any PSA10s, I have some more money to waste on these! image

i bought 3 1972 opc psa 10's last month at the time there were only 5 total so i guess i have 60% of them. my thoughts are that are not a waste of money. hockey is a niche sport but their fans are rabid. since opc is a canadian product it is tough to find them in the u.s. especially 25+ years later and in gem mint condition. finally after trading emails with several canadians they seem to go for bgs graded cards more than we do, so psa cards may be even more difficult to find.

It is never a waste of money if you like something.

it is though if you do not.

    Good for you.
  • hmmmmmm 1985-86 Topps Hockey.....45 PSA 10's.....18 are Mario RC's....one is an Yzerman.......
As for the rest....I pretty much own em ALL.......

Anyone want to buy the #1 ALL TIME FINEST SET??????

  • Those are pretty good buys. Given the rarity of 10's and the rabid collector base of early OPC's, there's not much downside (hard to see them ever going below $10 or $15 a piece).

Now try for a PSA 10 '80-81 OPC set image
  • Good luck tryng f or a PSA 10 OPC set in any year. I am having a hard enough time doing 80-81. and 81-82 in PSA 8 or better. Some say I am crazy for doing this because my ROI investment won't be that good. Oh well my loss is still my enjoyment. I was eyeing up those 1980 psa 10's you won but I had them in 9's already. Good luck and happy hunting.

If that isn't an indication of how many sheet-cut cards have been sent to BGS, I don't know what is...
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • I totally agree. I will never buy a BGS 9.5from this era and try to cross it over for that very reason.
