Off topic, but a little bit about the designer, Clifford Berryman, a political cartoonist, who is my nephews great-great uncle. Clifford designed this SCD and was the person who started the Teddy Bear tradition by doing a cartoon of Teddy Roosevelt shooting an old bear.
If interested. Berryman's original cartoons are on display in the Lawrence F. O'Brien Gallery of the National Archives Building from February 1-August 17, 2008.
I see I'm necroposting here ... @jonathanb if you still have this stuff another material you may think about using is precious metal clay. I hope to hear back from you!

Great Thread! I'm struck by the blatantly expansionist nature of this medal but the 1916 silver is a beast to find.
Thanks to all the previous posters who have added to my knowledge of the PPIE.
Love that perfect example of what a die crack is!
thanks for the Lazarus thread, I had not seen this one before!
A wonderful thread for SCD collectors! It's always great to see, so thanks for the post and bump!
Very interesting! I wonder how much of this would be stuck on the die and need to be cleaned off?
