Classless Yankee Fans

AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
Watching the highlights of tonight's yankees/orioles game, and a home run the orioles outfielder grabbed over the wall some ridiculous yankee fan tried to slap it out of the glove like an 8-year old girl.

WEAK.

I mean I know 'your' yankees got absolutely obliterated, but that's no reason to try to get in the way, jerk.

    You mean Slappy McBluelips?

  • They can't catch, either. Steve Bartman would have had that ball, easy. Or the kid who robbed the Orioles in the 96 playoffs.

That is all well and good, as I can state AS A FACT that I have been to many many Yankee games where the fans were great. My comment was just to stand up for the vast majority of good Yankee fans who, because of the money they have, and their general dominance of the sport for a century, have to listen to mindless banter from the envious!

Can you please show and/or tell me where a fan of visiting team attempted to knock the ball out of the home team's glove?

Lets see, its late September, the Orioles are real bad, the Yankees are in a heated pennant race, and Baltimore is a hop skip and a jump from the NY area. Yankee fans outnumber Oriole fans for these games.

Can you please tell me what that has to do with generalizing a whole fan base? The guy was an idiot! Yes he was. They unfortuantley dot EVERY ball park in the majors, and minors for that matter. But, of course, the Yankee fans get singled out like they are worse than anywhere else because its feels so good to hate the Yankees because they have, in general, kicked tail for a century. And they are loaded with cash. This thread is just stupid ....

I didn't say that it was *all* yankee fans, but if you want to have a guilty conscience about it, I can't help you there.

This isn't the first time in a playoff hunt this has happened...that dumb kid stole a sure out a few years back and turned it into a home run....there was the moronic kid who jumped into the netting a few weeks back.

The point of this thread wasn't to generalize ALL yankee fans as classless, just saying in this case, it clearly was.

Funny, that you state how worthless of a thread this is, yet you've replied how many times?

I simply stated with this thread was it was a classless display, and it has nothing to do with being envious of the yankees.

I think your repeated statement about how envious all the fans in baseball must be of the yankees success and payroll speaks volumes about why yankee fans are despised anywhere they go.

Hey, something just hit me why you are taking this so personally: was that YOU slapping like the 8 year old trying to turn the out into a homerun?

I didn't see the clip, but assume the "slapper" had on Yanks colors?
I have seen many occasions where a player goes into the stands for a ball....fair or foul.... and the fans are grabbing and slapping at his mitt......because they think they are entitled to go after the ball. In most of these instances, it is just the typical home town fan.

    It was played in Baltimore.

An Oriole goes over the wall to turn a home run into an out, and a 'fan' after initially cringing away, slaps at the glove trying to knock the ball loose.

There were 2 guys there, and one going after it.

    Yes it was classless.

    Yes they were yankee fans.

Yes my post was warranted...sorry you don't feel the same.
  • stownstown Posts: 11,321 ✭✭✭
The guys were wearing Yankee's gear. Player went up over wall, made one heck of a catch, was coming back down, and the fan swiped at the glove ala A-Rod.

It was obvious that he was attempting to knock the ball out, not stretching to catch a home run.

edit - oops, ax beat me to it

Football, basketball and soccer are played within clearly defined boundaries where a fan cannot really physically interfere. Baseball is different. This stuff is going to happen. Home town fans interfere regularly. It only gets publicized in an instance like this.

It wasn't a home town fan, that was the thing.

If it was a home town fan, they wouldn't have been interfering with the home team trying to make a play.

And yet you can't stay away.

Funny how that works, isn't it?

Isn't there a yankee circle jerk you and spammy can get in on somewhere?

Hey Ax, no doubt you have NY on the brain. The thread you chimed in on about the Braves over on Sports Cards and Mem. says it all.

Anyway, sucks to see Randy and A-rod in stripes huh? image

What's with you Yankee fans? You and Spammy are the only two that will quote a post yet completely ignore the content.

Not really...Unit was coming off of back surgery his last year in Seattle, and it would have been a major gamble to re-sign him.

As far as Arod, any team that would have matched Texas' offer of $25 mil / year would have been nuts.

Oh well...I'm still an M's fan, whether or not they ever win a world series...I wonder how many yankees can look themselves in the mirror and say that about 'their' team.

And what are you talking about? I made no reference to the spankees in that Braves thread. I know it's tough to keep straight, but I have the big MARINERS logo next to every one of my posts.

What I did mention was the NY bias the media (sports, included) has in this country.

Ax, its all good ..... all BS aside. The Mariners were a scary scary team for a long time and I thoroughly enjoyed the highs and lows of the epic post season battles the Yankees had with them. Edgar Martinez was like George Brett to me. I grew up watching George Brett do what Edgar did to the Yankees. Ken Griffey JR was right behind Edgar on the Yankee whoopin line, not to mention Jay Buhner ..... ewww that was as bad a deal as the Yankees have ever made. Tino, Edgar, A-Rod, Griffey, Buhner, Nelson, Johnson ....... man that was a scary team. I will never forget Ken Griffey Jr. sliding across home plate in 1995, how Buck Showalter had no idea what he had in a YOUNG Mariano Rivera taking him out of game 5 ...... good times!

Edited to say that Joey Cora used to drive me NUTS!!!!!
