Why is ICG so damned expensive??

Their cheapest world coin submission appears to be $20. ANACS is $10 for 10 plus coins, PCGS is $18, and NGC is $14 I believe. I'd imagine they'd be more competitive given their relative spot in the feeding line (4th)?
Everything I write is my opinion.

Looking for alot of crap.

Submit it through a dealer and it only costs the dealer $16. Also remember, ICG only charges $5. for bodybags.

If they ever set up at a show near you they run some pretty attractive specials.
  • Oh, I'm not planning on sending any to them, I just am criticizing their business decisions.image

    - Yeah, like last Long Beach we did a 20% off special for dealers and collectors.

    - We now have a 7 day guarantee for 15 day and Economy submissions (non world or ancient).

    - We put KM #'s on every coin, other attributions etc. on the label. As much as we can and no other service does this.

    - $5 for bodybags even if it is a $100 walkthough service. You only have to pay $5 if it bags.

    - We grade anicents, world, tokens, just about anything. No other service does as many types as we do.

We are busy! Lots of world coins and ancients but it is worth it in my opinion.

Please explain this. If you submit under the 15 day service, you guarantee 7 day service?

I have a rare Ritz Cracker that I would like to have slabbed, will you do that?

PCGS might do it, but it would be fossilized before you get it back.

What is people's honest opinion of ICG?

I've always thought of them as being distictly below NGC and PCGS in terms of accuracy of grading and conservative grading. But I've never bought one of their coins. And I'm aware of coins that were bodybagged by NGC or PCGS later ending up in an ICG holder.

I've purchased a few ICG graded light side coins in the past and all were properly graded ... wound up crossing over to PCGS at the same grade since I had purchased them for my registry sets. Sometime around the first part of next year I will have some darkside going in to ICG as I'm fed up with the poor turnaround and inconsistant grading at PCGS.

If you catch them at a show they run some very attractive specials, you can get down to about $14.

  • I am not spamming anything. I replied to a thread when there was a question asked. Thats it.

ajaan: the info is on the ICG website under "whats new". I don't want to be accused of spamming anything.

Would be nice if they ever showed up at one or more of the larger shows in St Louis as that would probably be my only chance to catch them as I usually don't have the opportunity to go to smoe of the larger shows elsewhere.

I find them to be as consistant as NGC or PCGS. I like ICG for world coins*. I especially like to buy ICG world coins because you can usually get them for a fraction of the PCGS or NGC price.

I have 'cracked' out a fair share of ICCS coins and submitted them to ICG, all came back within one point of the ICCS grade, and not all were higher graded by ICG.

I don't cconsider Cameron's reply to be spam at all.

I have several Walkers, Morgans, 2 classic commemoratives and a Bust half all graded by ICG. To me they are accurately graded and compare favorably to the coins I have slabbed from PGCS.

I believe that the perception problem comes from their past grading of moderns.

  • my experience with ICG had been poor a few years back - their Canadian coin grades seemed a couple of grades high. I recently bought an expensive Canadian 5¢ in high grade, with fear and trepidation...but the coin looks like it merits the grade on the holder! So now I don't think I will be as shy about buying their slabbed coins

They are not too good with modern stuff I hear. Members of local coin club stopped sending modern stuff to them, said ACG was better with SHQ's

They have to pay their graders big bucks... Those Olsen Twins collectibles are HUGE money you know!!!

And here I thought they were contemplating hiring the Olsen Twins as Booth Babes for when they let Cameron set up at shows ... image
