Great Pats/Steelers Game

I think everyone knew that the Steelers scored to quick to tie it up. How many times do we have to see Brady go down the field and Vin end it with less then a minute?

I agree...and how long until we finally give Brady the credit he deserves? People are always quick to point out 'it's the system' because he doesn't put up huge fantasy football numbers, and it's sad, really. People get so caught up in the numbers and overlook what it's really about - winning.

I had figured the Pats would put up a good game but thought the Steelers would win - amazing comeback by Brady and Co. to march down the field and seal the deal (again).

  • That was a nice game! Of course every game is better when your team wins!

That was one of the tightest games I've ever seen. My heart was in my mouth all the way up to the last second, of which was the exact time left when Vin got that field goal. To be honest, I didn't think NE was going to win this one prior to the start of the game, but they outplayed the Steelers in almost every area (if ever so slightly).
  • I think the Steelers have been watching that Burger King commercial too much. The King was not there to catch that lateral.

I caught only the last bit of it but when the Steelers scored and left a minute and a half for Brady, I knew how it would end.
  • Brady was 12 for 12 in the 4th quarter, when it counted.
Kinda upset about harrison and light getting injured though.
Can't wait for december when we play the bucs. We'll see
who gets put out into the wood shed then!image

Definitely a great game between the two best teams in football. New England showed why they are three time SB champs - it just seems like whenever someone gets hurt, or leaves the team, another player steps right in and does the job.

Pittsburgh is on pace for another season like last year - I still think Hines Ward is one of the most under rated receivers in the league. Big Ben didn't set the world on fire today, but he made the throws he had to, and threw no picks.

  • Yeah Baby!! The Pats come through in a big game once again!! image
  • I saw that a referee inadvertently added 52 seconds to the fourth quarter . . . hence the game was really won by the Steelers . . .

No bull . . . check out ESPN, the Line Judge missed the screw up. The time clock went from 13:59 4th Qtr on a false start penalty to 14:51 4th Qtr -- no one caught it until today!

It was an awesome game, but Pats got away with a big one there.

    Hmmm . . .

Pats were ahead, best case was pitt sends it to OT but wouldn't expect a idiot Steeler fan to think about that. Also whos to say the game doesn't change on pitts end etc etc to many factors. Pitts defense folded at the end, end of story

    Lame.

The steelers were ahead at the time...they Patriots took this game from the Steelers...

The steelers are going to be under the pats' thumb just like the colts?

Not only did the Patsies need the refs to get to their first super bowl but they need them this year just to beat the Steelers..how pathetic. This
team is clearly not dominate. I just hope the refs don't screw it up when we go up there! They sure tried to give it to the Packers!

  • Wake up JS, its all about coaching. Once again Belichek was the better coach. The Pats started the
game down 3 starters in the secondary, lost Harrison, and light, and still found a way to win.
Playing 3 quarters of the game with 2 rookies on the left side off. line. the Pats held off arguably
one of the better pass rushes in the NFL.
    December 17th baby!

Having the most clutch quarterback and kicker in the game doesn't hurt either image

    Joe-

How did the Pats need the refs to get to the super bowl? Are you referring to the tuck rule? You mean the *at the time* correct ruling on that rule (that's since been revoked)?

If you pulled your head out and knew football, you'd know these things.

abmluce...Nice to see you here. I missed you after week 1. Funny, there wern't many Patsie fans here after that, I guess a big win gets you
    out from under the bed.

Your team is breaking down. The "dynasty" is over. You can't ride the refs all the way to the playoffs! Good thing the Jets and Bills sucks.

How many times have the Pats been counted out because of injuries? Remember last year, 'Ty Law is out...there's no way they can win!'

  • And here is JS with his typical excuses. The refs gave you this, the refs gave you that. Blah blah blah.

You want to talk about who is dominate?? Lets see the Pats beating the Steelers by 3 or the Bucs beating the Packers by 1. Sorry which is dominate again?

    Ring count again?
  • joestalinjoestalin Posts: 12,473 ✭✭
GIve us 53 seconds more and we would of scored again! Just make sure you all don't get blown out again when you have to go down to
    Miami!

    JS
  • Ok.. so here is the real story. 52 seconds were added at the 1359 mark. Now you can spin it that this helped the Pats to win... or you can spin it that it helped the Steelers to tie the game. Hines ward scored with 1:21 left to play to tie the game. So... if you take off the 52 seconds... do you think that the Pats would have played their D any different? Perhaps. Either way... the game is over... and it took a full day for anyone to realize this.

And Joe what is that ring count? You make more excuses than anything else. You talk trash... then you hide just like you accuse everyone else of doing.
  • Clock error added 52 seconds to Steelers-Pats gameESPN.com news services

Tom Brady, among the league's best in late-game drives, led the Patriots down field for the winning score against the Steelers in 1:21 on Sunday.

But could he have done it in 29 seconds?

The NFL confirmed Monday that the game clock was improperly set early in the fourth quarter, adding 52 seconds to the game.

The error occurred at the beginning of the fourth quarter. With 14:51 remaining, Steelers receiver Cedric Wilson ran a reverse and was held to no gain; the play ran the clock down to 13:59.

A false start was called on Steelers guard Kendall Simmons on the next play, but instead of resetting the clock to 13:59, the clock operator set it back to 14:51 -- the time before Wilson's running play began. No one noticed the error, including the officiating crew.

Mike Pereira, the NFL's senior director of officiating, spoke to coaches Bill Cowher and Bill Belichick about the error on Monday and addressed it in a prepared statement.

"The on-field officiating crew, which oversees the official game clock operated in the press box, failed to recognize that the clock was improperly reset," he said.

According to former NFL official Chuck Heberling, who observes the officials in a league-appointed capacity, an NFL employee in New York spotted the error and immediately called officials supervisor Johnny Grier. Grier was sitting with Heberling in the press box.

"We checked it out with the statisticians and, according to his records, everything seemed to be all right," Heberling said. As a result, no move was made to try to correct the error.

The mistake showed up when the officiating crew, headed by referee Bill Carollo, reviewed the CBS game tape with Grier and Heberling during their usual post-game meeting in a Pittsburgh hotel.

"When we ran the tape, it was obvious it [the clock] was jumping," Heberling said.

The clock operators -- there are two, one for the game clock and the other for the play clock -- are locally-based but hired by the league. The Steelers did not identify them, and they are not listed with the other officials on the league's statistical report.

"It's a very unusual thing," Heberling said.

With those extra 52 seconds in place, the Steelers rallied to tie the game 20-20 on Ben Roethlisberger's 4-yard TD pass to Hines Ward with 1:21 remaining.

But that was enough time for Brady to lead the Patriots into position for Adam Vinatieri, the league's best clutch kicker, to make a 43-yard field goal with one second remaining to beat the Steelers 23-20 at Heinz Field.

Steelers president Dan Rooney was unaware of the mistake until being alerted Monday by reporters.

"There's nothing to say. The game's over," Rooney said. "It's not going to change the score."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

You'll never get Joe to admit he's ever wrong on anything.

The other day, I kept asking him to clarify points he made. On one hand he says that all that counts are 'rings' (everyone has seem him post this over and over), in referring to how much more superior the Bucs are over teams like the Falcons and Eagles. Then he goes on to say the Patriots are a mediocre team who's gotten 'lucky' (3 super bowl wins is luck? anyways.)

So I asked him: which would he rather have: 3 super bowl wins by 3 points or one huge super bowl win by 21 points. He *never* answered, because one answer or the other is going to show he talks out of both sides of his mouth.

Joe, so which is it? Is it the ring? Is the only true measuring stick in the NFL how many rings you've won? If that's the case, then your moronic posts about the 'patsies' need to be rescinded immediately. If you sit there and say you'd prefer to have one 21 point super bowl win over 3 3-point super bowl wins, we all know you're lying and you should seek therapy immediately.

Hey don't get your panties in a wad. Its simple, the Patsies need the refs to win games and win rings. Without the refs they only have one
more ring than the bucs and have been around a lot longer!! How many rings did the Patsies have after their 27th year in the league?

    zip

ahhh that taste in your mouth....well I don't know what THAT is, but that other taste in your mouth is the taste of weakness. Pats WILL
get exposed and the refs won't be there to bail them out!

    Joe-

Do you really believe the nonsense that spews out of your mouth, or do you just type up the first incoherent thought that comes to you?

Do you really believe the only reason the Pats have won 3 superbowls is because of the refs?

Now, that crap out of the way, by your OWN admission, you say that Patriots have one more ring than the Bucs do. That's MORE, right? And it's ALL ABOUT THE RING, right?

So by your very own admission, THE PATS ARE BETTER THAN THE BUCS, right>?

  • Excuses Joe... the refs... blaming refs...lol. So when the refs enforce a rule... they help the Pats out? They enforced a rule... simple as that. As for sunday, if the clock is set right from the start... it changes the entire game.

Grasping at straws huh Joe? Wow the Bucs are 3-0. Should i be like you and start using excuses why they are 3-0. Well.. they have a "cupcake" schedule. Wow they beat The Vikes, Bills and Packers. Sorry who is a playoff contender there? Followed up by the Lions, Jets, Dolphins and 49ers. Looks like the schedule makers felt sorry for the Bucs huh.

Regardless, a win is a win, no matter who you beat. It doesnt matter who beats who in the regular season, the playoffs are all that matters.

    Ring Count
    Pats 3
    Bucs 1
