What did BBE post? I'm at work and can't see Photobucket images. Usually there is a clue in the URL, but his URLs don't tell me what it is.

A '23 SLQ and a '17 SLQ. He didn't get the '23 in before you got that dime up.

OK, so we'll just pretend he played his '17 SLQ on my '17 Merc dime, and then followed his first SLQ with a 1923 SLQ.

So it's 1923 or Standing Liberty Quarter.

Which leaves me a little stuck, but by replaying a recent coin I can move us on.

    1923 Germany:

    image

    1768 Germany:

    image

Which puts the ball firmly into the Darksiders' court, but oh well. image

1768 or Germany to the next player!

How can you jump a 500 Mark to a 1 Thaler? If "German Coin" was the only qualifier...
  • mozinmozin Posts: 8,755 ✭✭✭
If the last coin posted was a foreign coin, you have to post a coin of the same date OR from the same country (type or denomination do not matter in this case.)

(German State of Lubeck, 8 schilling, 1729).

That's Germany or 1729 to the next player.

    Stumped y'all, huh?

OK, let's see if I can find a more modern German coin to get things back on track, and give the Litesiders a chance to grab the ball back.

Or, I could just make it worse for the Litesiders... image

Germany (Nuremberg) silver ducat klippe, 1650.

Dig that little kid with the stick-horse on the obverse. Kewl, huh? image

    image

So that's 1650 or Germany, folks.

Sorry to go even farther back in time, O Liteside Brethren. After this post kills the game for several days, I will try to scan a 19th or 20th century German piece to get things back into playing distance for y'all.

Unless somebody else is up to the challenge. image

    OK, boysandgirls.

We have ourselves a wildcard, here.

To quote myself from the first post of the game, for those who aren't familiar with the game rules:

<< <i>Dual-dated coins like Bicentennial issues or some commemorative issues are "wild card coins". For example, if I post a "1776-1976" Bicentennial quarter, the next person must post a Washington quarter OR a 1976-dated coin OR a 1776 dated coin, since 1776 is also one of the dates on the coin, though not the date it was issued. >>

This coin was struck (in Vienna) in 1939 (rather a portentous year for the Third Reich, eh?)

Additionally, it carries the birth and death dates for Paul von Hindenburg (1847-1934).

This means it's not dual-dated, but rather has THREE dates on it.

So the next player may play Germany or 1939 OR 1847 or 1934!

If that doesn't open the playing field to one and all, Liteside or Darkside, then I don't know what will!

    Dear Lordmarcovan,

I've wanted to post here a few times, but I guess I don't understand how UNO is played.
    I can't resist anymore, so I'm cheating.

    Dreadfully,

    Joe

Joe, it's simple. The rules are in the first post. You played a Morgan on a Morgan, which is fine.

This means I (or the next person) must play a Morgan dollar or a coin dated 1890.

    I can do that.

    image

Here is another 1890 Indian cent, just as it was being dug. (Though you can't read the date in the picture).

    image

Now the next person has to play an Indian cent or a coin from 1890.

Hey LordM, I guess we'll pretend that mozin got his 1890 dark-sider posted before my 1880 IHC.

I didn't know what you OR he posted, since I can't view Photobucket pix from this server at work. But I saw Sweden in his URL, whereas yours gave no clue to what it was. It was an 1880 IHC?

Cool. I was stuck without any pics of my Swedish coins. I wanted to post a picture of my old 1750 2-daler plate money from Sweden, but the pix are dead.

So it's 1880 or Indian Head cent.

That I can play, I think.

Yep. I can, though I have to dig back into the dirt for it. image

    image

    image

Apologies for the miserable pictures, but it's an 1881.

    1881 or Indian cent, now!

Yeah. I played and 1880 IHC about 1 min. before the 1890 dark-sider. I see that mozin has retracted his uno card so the official last played was the IHC.

    1881 or Indian cent.

Or, we'll make it 1903 or Indian cent.

Dug this one only a few feet away from the previous 1881 above.

It's an 1886 Canadian Fip. If you don't know what a Fip is do a search on these boards. For some unknown reason this is a very educational website! image

I've heard 'em called "fishscales", (a term that was probably more often associated with the silver three-cent piece or "trime" in the USA), but "fip" is a new one on me. I came across somebody saying it the other day and guessed what they meant.

I'll see your fip and raise you one.

This one just sold on eBay and is winging its way north, headed back to its homeland.

Nice fip! And I like her big sister too. Fact is I never thought I'd be posting dark-siders on this thread. Not because I don't have any, but because I don't have that many uploaded on my Photobucket account. Sad to hear that you can't see photobucket images from work. image

Yeah, our IT folk think of it as an "online community", and apparently they don't want us on "online communities". I'm glad this one slips under the radar, or I'd have some long, boring overnight shifts. I can get in eBay, too. But myspace, yahoo, craigslist, stuff like that (which I never use)? Fuhgeddaboutit.

While we're in 1901 Canadian mode...
