  • Unfortunately I see the BRM selling 1 ounce of silver for $65. It's a nice coin no doubt but just try to sell it and see what you get. I swore off BRM stuff a long time ago.

    Agsin, really nice coin though!!!!!!!!!

  • I couldn't decide between the one coin and the 4 coin. But I have all the other single coins and the four coin is a slightly higher mintage.

Only 2500 each of the singles ain't many. Do you recall how many were minted in previous years?

Actually 6,000 £2 coins were made. (2,500 singles and 3,500 for the 4 coin set)image

Another nice design. If I wasn't over moderns I'd be all over it.

  • hehe, yeah, now if only I could get proof from years before I started collecting. anything before 2003 is impossible to find.
  • Bill, I can find sets, but I collect the individual 2pound coins. Those seem to be harder to come by. Although I do see 1997 on ebay.

Their 1/10th oz gold version is the most expensive modern 1/10th oz coin that I know.

In general, I am surprised with BRM's products, very nice gift ideas but the prices!... image

1900-1915 half sovereign mint set , 16 coins in total, supposedly in mint condition, although it is not specified in the description for GBP 1395.

George V gold sovereign set, 5 coins in total, GBP 645, condition unknown, although I'm guessing EF or better, perhaps even unc.

Elizabeth II gold sovereign set, 21 coins in total, GBP 2495.I would have expected that for this price they would have put together a BU set, not a very difficult task for the Royal Mint but the description says , <<...are obviously more difficult to find especially when the criteria of “extremely fine” simply must be met. >>,in other words EF or better.

One more thing, there is a serious conflict of interests here, the BRM has no job selling such "historical sets" and competing with coin dealers. It's as if the Post Office starts selling old valuable stamps from their stock, something forbidden by law in most countries.IMHO, the fact that they come in special wooden packagings with COAs and limited mintage (of what, of the box?) doesn't make this more legit.

Pre-decimal set,GBP 24.95, I initially thought that this was a new packaging of the 1970 set, but it's a mixed 1960s type set.

Sorry for having side tracked this thread, it was not my original intention.

The Royal Mint is selling coin sets in Air Tites? Hmmm... if it works for them I guess I'll keep my sets in them. image

Another thing the BRM does is sell current products from other mints at a big markup.

    For instance:

    Canadian Mint's 2005 22-Karat Gold Coin - Fur traders

    Canadian mint price: $489.95 (CAN) $420.45 U.S.
    BRM Price: £300 (GPB) $526.41 U.S.

I bought such a set a few years ago from BRM, Dimitri.
I was wondering if they found the old coins in a forgotten vault, but a british dealer told me that they bought the coins for the sets from dealers. image
