Cardinals Thread - Why is everybody so quite?

frankhardyfrankhardy Posts: 8,097 ✭✭✭✭✭
The Cardinals have the best record in baseball. With all of the injuries, they are still on top. Why doesn't anybody in the media talk about them? All they do is mention that they have the best record, and then go on to something else. Whether you are a Cardinals fan, Cardinals hater, or indifferent, you almost certainly have noticed this.

They are doing quite fine. I have quietly noticed this.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

Now that my Cubbies are out of it, I'm rooting for the Cardinals all the way. YES!!

    Anyway, to answer your question:

    1. They were expected to repeat.
    2. They ran away with it so easily and haven't underperformed (So no story about how a $200M team can be in last place, yada, yada, yada, etc).
    3. They play as a team
    4. They don't play on the Coasts, and thus suffer from ESPN's fasination with Boston and NY.
    5. No one on the team gets caught drunk, beating up their wife, etc.

Maybe Edmonds can punch a teammate and a fan in the same game and they will then make the top story on ESPNEWS

    Remember these Chuck Norris Facts

    1. When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down
    2. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, Chuck Norris can actually roundhouse kick you yesterday
    3. There are no such things as lesbians, just women who have not yet met Chuck Norris

    Megatron,

In that case, maybe it's a good thing that the Cardinals get overlooked!

  • For the obvious reasons posted already by Megatron 1-5, enough said.
I find it really hard to beleive a Cubs fan rooting for the Cards... C'mon now tell us how you really feel!

    Walt Jocketty is a genius.

This season has been more impressive than last year. Eck and Grudz playing better than Renteria and Womack which was totally doubted,
Carpenter pitching lights out and without a doubt should win the Cy Young. But the best part in my opinion is the bench. Nunez tops the list. Guuch, Mabry, and the entire Memphis AAA team have done an outstanding job filling in for all the injuries. Solid proof that a good farm system is very important.
The only thing you can nag on is the bullpen which has been really shaky lately.

Mark my words. Watch out for Anthony Reyes next year!

I think the reason you don't hear more about the team is the perception, which isn't entirely unfounded, that Tony LaRussa cannot win in the playoffs. Yeah, he's taking another regular season juggernaut into the playoffs, but he's done that many times with little to show for it. I certainly hope that changes this year, but I think that's the reason why - even here in St. Louis - people are a bit guarded with their enthusiasm for the team.

  • Wow.

Now that my Cubbies are out of it, I'm rooting for the Cardinals all the way. YES!!

That's like a Red Sox fan saying, "Now that the Sox are out of it, I'm rooting for the Yankees!!"

    It just isn't right.

I agree about Anthony Reyes. I wonder if they will call him up in September. If they do, I'd bet that he will make the playoff roster and maybe come out of the bullpen.
