2nd Time around

I mentioned this a few months ago.. I sent in a Michael Jordan 86 Fleer Rookie to PSA, that i had had pulled out of a pack myself yet it came back "Evid of Trimming" which I knew was not right.. So i waited a couple months and sent it back with my 6 free submission voucher and got the grades yesturday..

I am not sure, but how do you prove that they were the same Jordan card that you sent both times to PSA?

  • Your right i really have no way of proving its the same card to anyone there. Atleast this time it didn't cost me anything to send it in.

If it was raw out of a pack -- and not in the holder of a company they dislike that starts with G -- I wonder why PSA felt it was trimmed? What were the indicators?

your lucky it came back authentic , how packs have been fabricated with fake jordans showing thru the top ....
  • I have had this card since the late 80's i pulled it myself from packs i got at either a convientent store or card shop don't remember. The reason i think the first grader might have thought it was trimmed was because it has a little chipping (i mean tiny) on the right front of the card about half way up on the edge. This is the only reason i see. I will scan it when i get it which will probably be friday and post it here.

joe , I thought you pulled it recently , I would not trust any of those raw packs with jordan showing as it is probably a fake.

Evidence of trimming? Either it was there or not. Sounds like a more inexperienced grader made a mistake.

Anything else would just feed a "conspiracy" of theories IMO.

I promise you, anytime a job is involved where "judgement" rather than hard facts are involved....we can set up an experiment where I promise you they will contradict themselves some of the time.

  • wouldn't it take 2 graders to both come to the same conclusion that it was trimmed in order for PSA to label it as trimmed? I remember reading somewhere that a minimum of two graders review the card and submit their grade(without knowledge of what each gave the card). If the gradings are off, a 3rd grader is used to break the tie.

  • packCollector, i also don't trust unopened packs, especially from this set, I get sick everytime i check Ebay and see all the fake Jordans or unopened packs from this set because there is no chance in pulling a "real" Jordan from them.

do you think any packs slip by gai? i just purchased a gai graded pack 7.5 and pulled a few nice cards i'm planning to submit (86f bkb). how does gai determine the grade of a pack (i.e. the difference in a 7.5 and 8, etc...)? i guess i should read their website. image

    Thanks,

  • I got a similar story. Bought a psa 7, 58 Mantle. Old grading number, great card. I thought it had a shot at an 8 because it was graded 7-8 years ago. So I cracked it, sent it in. Came back "evidence of trimming". Still sitting in my closet. Not sure if I should A) send it back raw and try again. Or 2) Send it back with the 7 holder asking for a reholder (which I hear is not graded again). SUCKS.
  • Sometimes when I card doesn't meet minimum measurement, it will get slapped with "evidence of trimming" designation. This happens sometimes with legit cards and already holdered cards that get re-submitted raw. Try re-submitting again and hope for the best.

    I agree Frank
It's about $ - if they mark it undersized - they give a voucher, I believe; if evidence of trimming you get squat - let's do the math?

    Stone,

Who knows which grade may have come from the "inexperienced grader". It's really hard to believe the same card can pass physical size requirements one submission and not the other (it "grew" in between submissions?? image ). Even one of our resident PSA proponents (you!!! image ) couldn't explain that one away, eh?
