I haven't bought anything from them, but I've checked their site for books, and sometimes I looked at the coins.... Most of the stuff the have is raw, and I wouldn't buy that over the internet. You can better buy the coins graded by PCGS or NGC for a few bucks more, but you will be happier with it laterimage Or you could go to shows and buy the coins there, but you still need a good eye for that......

Some of there coins look over priced, but i like the AU standing liberty quarters and the AU barber dimes. Also from the pictures can you tell if the grading looks accurate? Thanks again!

Poor pics, prices look pretty high at least for a few Morgans I looked at, would'nt be my dealer of choice. What kind/kinds of coins are you looking for?

I used to sell them all my buff nix, lib nix, wheats, and assorted junk from the shop.

They are an "end user" for many dealers. Never wondered who they SOLD to. Their checks were good and they took glorp off my hands.

However, they are one of the best for buying supplies!

image has anyone actually bought coins from this store
  • A couple of months ago I ordered some Sac dollars from Jake's. I had ordered supplies from him in the past with excellent service. Not this time. I had waited over 2 weeks for my order and emailed them for an update and got no response. I called Jake's and the man that answered the phone would not even let me finish asking my question regarding my order. It was like he had a print out of their shipping policy and was reading it to me real fast and would not stop to let me finish my question. He was short with me on the phone and rude. I emailed Jake's later that day to complain and got an email back with an apology and was told they were short staffed. Waited another week with no order and called to cancel the order...yep..same rude man answered the phone again and started the same shipping policy read..I told him to cancel my order and he did.

I will never buy from Jake's again because of poor customer service.

Good luck if you buy coins from them and I hope you get your order in a reasonable amount of time.

Hi, Michael from Jakesmp.com here.. I am sorry to find a message from 12 years ago finding fault with our service, and customer service. I sure wish the poster who mention this would have talked to me! Customer service is how we have been in business since 1963.

Don't know what the issue was with that poster from 2005, but I have bought a few times (supplies) and had no issues.

Wow @Jake, holy crap, I'm floored by your post! :#Why draw negative attention by resurrecting a 13-year old thread criticizing your company's bad customer service?! Your poor posting judgement alone is enough to make me question doing business with your company!

I might agree that it was not entirely necessary to resurrect an old thread, but if he could find it by searching the forum others could, too. So, I guess he did not want that unanswered ding against their reputation to be lying out there waiting to be found by someone doing a search.

BTW, I had issues finding a good online source (price and selection) for supplies, and Jake's was one of the few that I found.

Also, on my last order a year or so ago, the total calculated shipping ended up being more than actual shipping, so they refunded the difference. How many sellers would bother to do that?

That's no fun - wake them up, ask them if they are awake, and then tell them to go back to sleep. :p

I did this, too, but they no longer have the buy list they used to have.

@EXOJUNKIE Based on the past record, I expect @Jake will reply to your post around April, 2031. :)

    I couldn't disagree with @EXOJUNKIE more.

For starters, I didn't know that jakesmp.com existed, now I do.

Also, I now know that he somewhat cares about his perception from a customer service point of view.

Well... I missed this thread the first time around... however, now I will check them out... I need supplies from time to time and based on 'Jakes' input here, I will give them a try. Cheers, RickO

They are a fine source for supplies, ricko. Plus have some decent coins too.

I have purchased supplies on and off for years from Jakes. I never had a problem with them. They shipped on time and the supplies arrived undamaged ... which is not always the case with supply companies.
