Are there any Coin shows in Ohio ?

I was wondering how the Ohioans are treating coin collectors ?

I think they should "lighten up" and perhaps learn some of the positive experiences of coin collecting.
Do athletes bad mouth a sport after they get hurt ? No Way

Do gamblers bad mouth gambling after losing money ? No,they go back for more ...and more

I vote for a future ANA in Columbus Ohio ?

I was at the local month coin show in Cleveland this morning.....

They where talking about the tax bull crap and that and how you have to pay tax.....

I purchased two coins for $30 & $12 dollars from the same dealer and he stated that tax was included with that price.....

Most of them where pretty hostile over the situation but are dealing with it some way.....

there's one in Strongsville real soon I think.

that crackpot charges 4.00 admission. what a ripoff.

I live here in Ohio and the only show I go to is Baltimore.

Yeah, the upcoming one is Aug 19-21 in Independence.

goose3, that $4 is a real hot button with you, ain't it? image Tell you what, come to that show so I can see that new Flyer, and I'll pay your $4 and buy breakfast.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

The show in Dayton at the Holiday Inn is a joke, as its mostly stamps and baseball cards... last show had 3 dealers who had coins image

The Cincinnati/Greenhills show is a fantastic monthly show on 40+ tables and good variety. I can be found there every last Sunday of the month. 10am-6pm Free admission

Also, the Ohio State Coin Show is coming up right above Columbus, OH

125 tables and 95 dealers, free parking

    when:
    Fri Sept 2 10am-6pm
    Sat Sept 3 10 am-6pm
    Sun Sept 4 10am-4pm

    I might if I'm allowed!image
I leave for Canada on the 12th. Get back on the 19th and we all leave for PA on the 22nd.

it's not the 4.00 Kranky, it's just that why would anyone pay 4.00 to go to that tiny show when you can attend something like Baltimore for Free.

Nelson can go take a long hike off of a short pier then. I wouldn't attend that even IF someone paid it for me.

    Oh well, I tried. image

And I notice the Ohio State Coin Show that wildjag mentioned also has a $3 admission fee. That show is about a 3.5 hour drive each way. Would it be worth it (the drive, not the $3!).

I hate the fee as well but it is 10-15 min from my house if that show in Columbus is fee, it ain't cause of the gas I would spend getting there.....

Still might be worth checking out that show to see what they have.....

  • If you go to the one in Independence, Oh (aug 19-21), watch out for the sweet old man that claims he's in it for the love of the hobby when instead, he swindles people with his inventory of ATs!

Since I am likely barber half hunting, unless I put the cash together for a $5 Indian MS-62 ($600ish now?) or $2.50 Liberty MS-62 ($450ish now?), don't see AT things being a problem.....

Cause toned Barbers are hard enough to find.....

There is also a semi annual show run by Paul Padgett in Cincinnatti the last weekend in Sept.

Hi Conder101--Yes, Paul Padgett has a spring show and a fall show at the Sharonville Convention Center(Sharonville is part of Greater Cincy)--He also attends the monthly Greenhills Show. I was born and raised at the Greenhills show- I remember going to it in the mid 1970's with my dear departed Dad and my 2 brothers- I was relagated to the 'Cheapo" boxes and have fond memories of scouring for Barber dimes to fill my Blue Whitman folder-the funny thing is after a 30yr. absence I now attend monthly and it is still the same as it ever was. I take my six yr. old son and he loves it. It is also time for me to talk about my true love(Jefferson nickels) with 2 of the finest dealers in the USA-that would be GRANDAM- and COINHUNTER-both are board members and have gone out of there way to help me. To me the local show IS COIN COLLECTING AT ITS FINEST-I know Ohio is the butt of all the jokes now but I will keep on going to my show and spending my money with the dealers I trust and in the end all this will blow over. To me coin collecting is about many things, history, friends, family, meeting new people and most of all LEARNING something new.--I invite all off the board members to come to OHIO and spend some time at a show, and who knows maybe we will run into each other--thanks Don/MM

There's a few small shows around the Akron area and a larger monthly show west of Cleveland. I no longer attend the Nelson shows. I don't like the cover charge nor the same old coins and a good percentage of the same old dealers that show up over and over.
