Rafael Palmeiro deserves to be in the hall?
Based on Stats?
What about Pete Rose....
Based on Stats?
Who will be next to fall? Frank Thomas? Sosa? Bonds???

One thing is for sure: SELL YOU PALMEIRO CARDS NOW!(in fact, you should have sold them last week!!)
McGwire? Out. Sosa? Out. Palmeiro? Out. Bonds? Hopefully they find a way to stick him in jail, but until then... out.
Griffey? Probably in, although you seem like a jerk ass. Man Ram? See Griffey. Trammell, you're in. Munson, God rest you, you are in. Ron Santo, you are DEFINITELY in.
In the final analysis it should be about more than just numbers. Yeah, numbers ARE important; I can't deny that. You can't put Casey Candaele in the Hall, or someone like that. But the fact that you either did or didn't serve as a worthy ambassador to the game should count for something. Now you can be a toad and still get in; I'd put Ty Cobb on the first ballot even if I would give all the tea in China for the opportunity to go back in time and break a Louisville slugger over that foul tempered cracker's head. So your personality in and of itself shouldn't be a consideration. But whether the game is better for having had you represent it should count for far, far more than it currently does.

Get Thomas out of there! I am a die hard Cubs fan, but I think Frank Thomas is...was one hell of a hitter. He came into the league the same size he is now. Don't forget he played tight end on Bo Jackson's offensive line at Auburn.

Hey now.........Thomas never used steroids. Period. I'd like to see Bonds fall. Of course he and Sosa are regular users.

Not sure exactly what Sosa and McGwire have done to hurt the integrity of the game. Many would attribute baseball's resurgence after the strike of 94 to their home run battling. Raffy and Bonds, along with Giambi and Sheffield, absolutely out.

Uhm jerk ass? What have you seen/heard to give this title to him? Remember him giving that fan who caught his 500th HR ball an all star experience for him and 3 friends? Flight, hotel, on field access, the works. Everything I've seen says he's a quality guy.
As much as I'd like to put in every nice guy, it's their accomplishments on the field that the hall is for. As much as I liked Munson's career, he doesn't belong in. Yes, in an ideal world, these athletes would be ideal citizens. But just like in real life, there are nice guys and bad guys who excel at what they do.
I've just never bought this argument. Baseball has been around for 100+ years-- it was going to come back regardless.
Jose Caseco said, in his book, "he personally "shot-up" Rafe with steriods.
...And now, years later (...and after a two month appeals process by MLB), Major League Baseball suspends Rafe 10 days for testing positive for steriods?
ok,
1 + 1 = 3
rbd
edit: reminds me of a certain American President stating, "I took a puff, but I didn't inhale"!! (...and as Rafe stated, "...it must have been in a harmless suplement I was taking, it was an accident...). (Nah, no pattern here, as 1 + 1 does equal 3...)
further edit: What else would Rafe say? Otherwise he may be risking the "wrath of Congress" for "lying under oath" telling Congress that he NEVER, EVER took steriods, ...where he now could be facing very serious perjury charges. But its ok Rafe, 1 + 1 = 3 !!!!!!!!

Not sure about Thomas, but Sosa and Bonds have already fallen. The only question is whether we continue to choose to ignore their big, bloated carcasses lying in the middle of the room because we can't "prove" how they got there, or if we instead choose to use the brains God gave a flea.
"Innocent until proven guilty" and "beyond any reasonable doubt" are lovely sentiments, and absolutely essential components of a process where the end result can be incarceration or even death. But they do not apply outside of that process, and they do not require us to be fools in the normal conduct of our lives.
Question: your kid comes home glassy-eyed and reeking of pot. Does he get a pass because you can't "prove" what he was smoking? If he does, you just might be a fool.
from all that air freshener! Plus dad, you know me, I would never inhale!..."
