What the heck is that doing in a junk box? Shame! That's a cool coin.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    Hello dog97.

The US-Philippines are bi-national and bi-lingual. They all say "United States of American" on the reverses. You can see the "United" on the reverse of Mad Marty's coin.

At one time they were generally considered to be Philippine coins, but today they're generally considered US coins. They're listed in the Red Book (GUide to US Coinage) and included as US coinage in, for instance, the PCGS and NGC pop reports. Also, when you slab the US-Philippine coins, you pay the domestic rate.

The coins were mostly minded in Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Denver, like American coins, but beginning in 1920 some were minted in Manila which was and is the only US mint ever located outside the continental USA.

The US Philippine error coins are few and far between and reasonably valuable. Mad Marty's is one of only two 5 centavos that I've seen that is so far off center. I have the other one, but it's no where nearly as neat looking as his.

    Best wishes,
