$160 in 1969 for a pattern, J-1627, which later slabbed as PR63. Given the changing value of the dollar and fact that I could have invested the $160 in 1969, I would have been a lot better off financially not buying the pattern. But I still love the coin anyway!
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Flea market Morgan? >>
Nope, only paid $100 for the Flea Market Morgan and it sold for $1475. The $150 was for a 1967 SMS Kennedy; actually bought two at $150 each. Both slabbed MS67DCAM.
in 2003, I spent $2000. but I received 20 of them, a paper wrapped original roll of 1882cc morgans from a retired banker; all were ms64/65s [needless to say their gone now]
Paid $1100 for a PCGS MS66 1943/2-P Jefferson nickel that wasn't designated as having full steps but it does have close to 6 sharp steps! Does that count?

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
eBay - $5,000 for a "rainbow" toned Trade dollar in "Proof 65"...bought it in my first year of returning to collecting (a few years back). S
Sent to PCGS, came back a bodybag. Fortunately, the dealer refunded my money upon return.
I dodged that bullet but not so lucky in that same first year buying other raw, white, key coins, spending hundreds on Morgans that ended up being body bagged as problem coins.
As others refer to it, I think of the losses as my education "tuition".
