Not sure if there are any maddux fans out there but tonight he goes for 3000 Ks! Well I know maddux is towards the end of his career and his ERA has been getting worse the last few years, but he has had a pretty tremendous career. I don't think we will ever see another pitcher get 15+ wins a season for 17 years in a row(not sure if he will make it 18 this year but will see!) I was lucky enough to watch his 300th win against my hometown giants last year. Hopefully he will get 3000 Ks tonight against the giants too!(I'm also a giants fan but when maddux pitches against my giants, I become a cubs fan for that one game!)

Likely one of the most underrated pitchers of this generation.
1st ballot HOF in my opinion.
longevity allows him to compile some milestones.

Yes Palmiero and Maddux will retire and go into the HOF together.
4 consecutive cy young awards, (palmiero didn't win a single MVP), 8 time all star (raffy has 3 in 18 years? sad), 14 gold gloves (13 of those in a row), led the league in ERA 4 times, wins 3 times, and shutouts five times (raffy failed to ever lead the league in HR, BA, or RBI).
They will both go into the hall. But unlike Raffy, Maddux DOMINATED the sport.
edited to add: all one needs is 75% of the vote.
I wonder how a guy could be labeled "UNDERRATED one moment and then truly dominate" the next.
can you be UNDERRATED and dominate at the same time?
I suppose you could, but that logic baffles me.

When people think of the great pitchers of this era, I doubt that Maddux is thought of.
He's a quiet guy, never got into trouble, did his job, and truly did dominate for a 4 year stretch.
Yes you can dominate and be underrated.
Does the name Tom Brady ring a bell?

My comment about Maddux deserving the HOF (like Palmiero) was not intended for anyone specific, but for the the mass audience in general, yet YOU had to AGAIN throw out how Palmiero was not DOMINANT. My post NEVER implied that he was. My implication was that he was a true pro like Maduxx, I think it is best you keep your word to the community.

I presume Babe Ruth to be one.

Rick Ankiel was used a few times, and now the Cardinals use Jason Marquis. He's batting .353 so there's no reason not to.

I am surprised at how I've seen some posts as Maddux as underrated etc...? Yeah, he may have gone unnoticed in the deacade of the 2000's, but in the 90's nobody was better. He had an incredible run of ERA and Walks/Hits per nine innings.
me too skin, me too.
