Attention Red Sox Fans

I know ESPN likes to make its world revolve around you and the Yankees, but beware this weekend as you may run into a buzzsaw known as the Chicago White Sox. ESPN has been pretty much hush-hush about the White Sox this year (not exciting or sexy enough....i.e. think Raffy Palmeiro), but in case you don't know, they have the best record in baseball and have been tearing up the league this year.

I am not a White Sox fan (look at my logo), but have to admire this team this year. They are 6/14 AL teams in runs scored, 14/14 in hits, 4/14 in home runs, 6/14 in RBIs, 14/14 in BA, 11/14 in OBP, 8/14 in SLG, and 8/14 in OPS.

In pitching, they are 1/14 in ERA (3.62) 5/14 K/9, and 3/14 in WHIP.

While their pitching is good, they find a way to come back and win and lead the league. Although I don't really care what the outcome of the series is this weekend, I must say it would be so sweet to kick the Boston team's cuolos all the way back to whitey town just to show the rest of the U.S. and ESPN that baseball somehow exists outside of NY and BOS.

I wonder how often the White Sox (even now with a team in first place) sells out.

Try getting tickets to a Red Sox game.

How is ESPN supposed to care about baseball in Chicago when Chicago doesn't even show up for the white sox?

ESPN cares very much about baseball in Chicago by overhyping a mediocore team this year in the Cubs. Next to the Yankees and Red Sox, it is the Cubs this and Cubs that. As a die hard Cubs fan, I enjoy it, but don't think it is deserved this year.

However, the White Sox are a second class team in Chicago. The question you should ask is how often doe the Cubs sell out? The answer is about 100%. That is why ESPN follows them so much and what is so frustrating for me. No matter what the team does, Wrigley fans will always fill Wrigley Field - that is why it has the highest attendance of any team this year as a % of capacity.

Fortunately, the Cubs remain one of the top draws on the road as well.

Like I stated, the White Sox could do a lot to get some visibility here.

GO CUBBIES!!!! Maybe next year? Or the year after that image

I heard Wood is injured again....is that guy done?

  • i would suspect fenway sells out for a lot of the same reasons wrigley does. but the knock on the cubs in the past(recent) has been they don't care if they win. i think now they do care.the cubs and boston are very similiar franchises.great tradition etc.....so far as the exposure the yanks, red sox and cubs are probably the 3 top franchises in baseball. LA should be included but i think in the last few years they have really lost their luster .

Stiff shoulder, again, and again. When he is on, he is great, when he's not.....well.

The problem with him is that he cannot be converted to a reliever/closer. His runs allowed in the first inning pitched are astronomical, and then he settles down from there....sometimes.

Great guy, sad story. He is stubborn though and thinks a 97 mph fastball will work wonders everytime. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. One thing is for certain.....it definitely doesn't work wonders on his arm and shoulder.

    He He

Hope I didn't jinx the Sox of a pure color.
  • The White Sox probably have the most bland history of any Major League team.

They have won ONE pennant in the last 85 seasons. One. And they are probably most famous for fixing a World Series.

And before Frank Thomas appeared, their greatest player (who played the majority of their career with the White Sox) was probably Luke Appling. Compare him to other teams greatest players.

As Megatron alluded, they are the red-headed stepchild of Chicago. And while White Sox fans are always jealous of the Cubs sellouts, they just dont seem to support their team.

Granted, their ballpark is in one of the worst areas of any major league ballpark and normal, non-pass parking can be a little scary as you are in a terrible area. But, they have the best record in baseball and are 18th in home attendance. And their park is nice and clean and has great food.

Their attendance is low even with half-price Mondays. They are always passing out buy 1 get 1 upper deck ticket free coupons. I live 90 miles away and have 10 of them from my local paper. When they play the Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees or Cardinals, they sell out. But it sounds like the majority of the fans are for the visiting team.

    It just doesnt make sense.

That being said, I have watched parts of many games this year (am watching tonights Red Sox game as I type) and they are a bunch of scrapping hustlers without a true superstar position player (which is probably the reason they dont appear on national TV too often and are something like 26th in road attendance-and that includes 3 Wrigley sellouts) who ride their excellent pitching staff to do just enough to win. And they have an incredible knack of winning the close games. They have been a very good team so far that has also avoided major injuries (except to Thomas) to date too.

They should be packing the house with their own fans, but while the fans are always worried about the Cubs, they just dont support their team by attending their games the way they should.

It's one thing to be a fan.

It's quite another to need mental therapy due to delusional thought processes like this.

You can't honestly think for a second that the yankees have any shot at the best record in the AL this year, do you?

  • As is similar to just about everyother post on this board, a discussion about something else (in this case the Red Sox and White Sox) has turned into a Yankee post. Its getting a bit ridiculous.

The funny thing is that with 2 pages of threads, not a single White Sox fan showed up to talk about their team. Am I correct?
