US MINT WEB PAGE DOWN

Who would have thought that this would happen again I thought this was fixed... The site advises to call the Mint to order. Any bets on this item being back ordered and shipping to be in mid October.

Why does this surprise anyone anymore? The Mint's site always goes into convulsions whenever a new issue comes out. Plan for it, prepare for it, deal with it.

From the US Mint web site:

Sales for each of the four Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollar limited-edition products are expected to be brisk starting at 12:00
noon (ET) on July 20, 2005. The United States Mint online catalog is temporarily unavailable while it makes final preparations in order to increase access for all online users.
You may place your order online starting at 12:00 noon (ET). Thank you for your patience.

  • Im bad but I did get the shipping date close.
  • How close is close?

I started "shopping" at noon, and by checkout a whopping 11 minutes later, mine are already backordered and has a shipping date of 10/20/2005...

I'm hoping that the little advertisements (order forms) that the mint sends people when they have a new release will get me in line a little earlier. Their site used to be so good and now it is toast.
  • Site is STILL down and it is after noon. How do they expect to sell the Marine Commemorative if their website is down?image

I have been a collector for over mumbly-five years. I learn something new every day.
  • "F" the mint and all who work there.
They are probably busy attaching milk spots to the the coinsimage
  • They're being sold by the shovel full, which is why the site is down. Probably a few thousand people hitting the site every few seconds.
  • I got 8/29/05 on American legacy set and on the proof and unc 10/20/05.

Not likely, I tried that with the Buffalo Comm. thinking maybe they saved a few for the mailings, didn't happen.

But with 600,000 there should be enough.

Before the mint went down, they had a message that essentially said they are putting the 10/20 ship date out there, but will be processing coins on a first come first served basis and coins will be shipping before that date. It seemed they just want to get the orders straight before they say they are going to ship. I guess pushing the ship date out further and further has pissed enough people off that they picked a date they think they'll be able to meet.

Got into the site around 12:15 ET, completed my order by 12:45 ET. Only a half an hour of refreshing and retrying. Sucks, but better than last time 'round. The bad news is of course that they won't ship until 10/20 (or whenever -- I hope no one's thinking that that date has any basis in reality).

Like I've said, the Mint should really outsource their web operations to amazon. Those guys know how to do it right.

    here's what's on their site:

"The United States Mint is expecting delays in the shipment of the 2005 Marine Corps 230th Anniversary Silver Dollar. The United States Mint will individually notify customers when their orders are expected to ship, based on our first-in, first-out fulfillment policy and after completion of order limit review."

As someone else pointed out, after logging in all goes pretty quick.

  • I called at 12:30 eastern, busyed out about ten times, then held for maybe three minutes and got my order in. It wasn't as bad as the coin & medal sets.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

Just finished placing my order about 15 minutes ago. I opened an additional web page of the site each time I loaded my cart and this seemed to speed up the process of loading my cart. I ordered the Legacy and uncirculated and proof Marine Commemorative. I tried to access the site about a minute ago and its states the mint site is not accessible now.
  • Finally got through to the order page for the proof Marine $...delivery date is estimated at 10/20/2005....they are only minting 600k of these..they must be making 5k a week..must be on the old manual presses..hope the keep themules fed...

Well, I did it. Finally. Ordered two MS coins (one for me and one for a Marine buddy). I really I hope I don't have to wait until October.

It says it's backordered until Oct., does that mean the bill won't hit my card until October or will it go through soon?

  • The US mint. The biggest coin dealer in the world. Sheesh

They are open 24 hours a day. They have to be, because their employees are so freakin slow.

I mailed in the order on Monday and received email confirmation today. Snail mail is so 20th century, but it really spares you the aggravation in cases like this.
  • They are not open 24 hours a day. It's like 7 AM to 11 PM or something like that.
