POLL: Soriano nearly as good as Arod?

AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
This is to quiet Mr. Stalin (is that possible).

JS's contention is that Soriano has more years in front of him, and is every bit as good a player as Arod. The overwhelming majority of posts disagree with him.

Arod and Soriano are nearly the same age (Arod is 6 months older), so I (and most everyone else) are puzzled how Soriano has more years left.

So I ask this: is Soriano anywhere near the same level of player that Arod is? Who would you rather have on your team? Who will end up with more numbers in MVP, gold gloves, BA, HR, RBI?

Please post away!

I don't want to vote yet, someone tell me what the score is so far??

  • You should have had a choice that it is like comparing apples and oranges. Right now its 8-6 with the no's being ahead.

One thing Ive never known about these polls, can the same person vote more than once?

I don't like the question since "near" is a relative term. As good is an easy no, but right now I guess he is nearly as good at least offensively.

Why do you continue to bring that up?

How much did Arod make after his first four years?

How much will Soriano make when he signs a new deal?

    APPLES AND ORANGES JOE!

You can't compare their contracts because Arod has been in the league longer, done MUCH more, and is an overall stronger asset than Soriano.

actually Soriano DID get a new deal, he was making around 3.5 mil his first few years...those same years putting up comparable
    stats to pay-wad.

How much was Arod making after his first four years in the league Joe? Why don't you compare those numbers?

Of course a sure fire hall of famer who has been in the league for 10 years is going to make TONS more cash than someone who's only had 4 full years under his belt.

What, next you'll be saying that Big Ben is a better QB than Peyton Manning because they put up similar numbers and Peyton makes all that money!

If they can let their personal opinions about me get in the way of honestly answering a poll question, well I feel sorry for them. If they feel so strongly about me that they cannot honestly answer something as trivial and as meaningless as a poll question, well, what does that say about them (and you, since I know YOU voted in opposition to my poll because you despise me so? How pathetic is that?)

come now, Ax is as knowlegable as anyone here, especially when it comes to the NFL. I would like to think that most of the votes
for Soriano are because he is a beast and not just to make Ax looks like a fool. Im perfectly capable of doing that to Ax by myself.

Only the Yankers have a system where pay means squat. They hand out 14 mil to anyone. They have guys on their team making 12, 14
that no other team would pay 5 mil. Its clear that at least the Yanks, in offering Arod that much money, though he was so much
better than Soriano.......boy they were wrong, Arod hasn't slacked like other big name free agents the Geroge has picked up (unit, Giambi),
but dang with the extra 19 mil he could of bought some more pitching!

..and what is he paying that extra 19 mil for....3 less errors, 18 points better of batting, and a few more homers and rbi's??

of course no one will ever be calling Alf, "Slappy"

The Yankees didn't offer that money to Arod, that was Texas, remember? image

And remember, Texas is paying a good chunk of his salary while he's playing for NY....

About the only other team that has a shot in the NFC south is Carolina and Vick owns them...

1-1 in 2004, 2003 was vickless, and TB was beastly in 2002

It seems that all 4 teams in that division has one other who owns them.

New Orleans? Jeez I am glad I'm not a fan of theirs, I'd be dead of stress already. They have so much talent, but no desire to actually use it. How their coach isn't in a coroner's van already is beyond me.

Atlanta? All I can say is (and I am sure you know this) hope that Vick doesn't get hurt. We've both seen what happens to that team with no Vick at the helm.

Tampa? On one hand I want to think they will rebound this year, but I think it will be another before they are competitive.

Carolina? I think they will struggle as well.

If Vick is healthy, they are the only team I see capable (this year) of dominating in the division.
  • well said, objective analysis of the nfc south.

the saints will find ways to lose half or more of their games

the bucs are going in the right direction, but still need time

the panthers are tough to figure out - after a horrid start with injuries last year, they get their crap together and get hot only to lose their last game to the aints...

the falcons are incomplete without vick... as a falcons fan i have no shame in saying they'd win probably 1/3 as many games without him. whether they're up 30 or down 30, i'm on the edge of my seat every play just hoping he don't get hurt... if he improves his passing game, the falcons will be tough to beat.

I've long thought that they Falcons would be better off using Vick as RB/WR and letting Schaub (who was schooled in the west coast offense since his college days) at QB.

As exciting as Vick is, I just don't think his talents are best served at QB. He makes plays with the ball in his hands, and that (to me at least) is in direct conflict with a QB's role of getting rid of the ball as quickly as possible.

In the traditional sense of QB, I agree.

Their style of offense was highly effective last year however. If you look at the falcon's stats, they hit you hard early. Primarily because teams weren't used to seeing it. Once they saw it, and planned accordingly, the Falcons didn't fare as well.

As exhibited numerous times, they can tear teams like the Rams apart on pretty much the hybrid rushing attack alone. But you can't win the SB that way - the passing must improve. Should be one helluva home opener.

we may have been 1-1 against the Falcons last but that absolute BUTT KICKING we gave you all last year at our place should count
as 3 wins. You squeaked by a few weeks later, but everyone knows we own Vick and this year will be no exception. You willl see the
same brick wall defense, but you will also see a high powered offense. 6-0 in the division is no prob.

I smell fear...Viking fan must be close

Uhm, I am as big a fan of the Bucs as anyone, but where is this high powered offense going to come from?

And saying they'll go undefeated in the division? Just wrong hehe.

The Bucs will struggle to win 9 games this year.
