I know the Krause and Spinks values, but does anyone have any pricing info on an 11-piece 1902 Matte Proof Set with an original case?

Cosmic could be the one to answer this besides wybrit and co image, although his set was taylor made with a lot of patience. I've noticed that ebay prices are low for these matte proof sets, but the average quality is also low and a nice set that would grade 64-65 should be able to be worth a considerable premium.

  • On ebay I have seen a few at about $900.00 But the average is in the $1200.00 range. Nen usually has 1 or 2 in the 1200.00 to 1300.00 range.

$900 would be a steal as the 4 gold coins contain 2 troy ounces of gold (melt of $841 from todays close).

edited to add: My bad! image Didn't notice the "11 piece". Probably can't even get a 5 Pound for $900.

The 11 piece set is the short set. I would agree with some of the other quotes I have seen. The set is not particularly rare unless the pieces are in exquisite condition. Most sets have a lot of PF61 and PF62s (or "BBs") due to the wiping at the mint.

Do not buy a set sight unseen.
