<< <i>his local police department and they told I can't file a report cause I am not an ohio resident.
sorry to inform you buddy but you could live on the moon and the police would have to take your info, anyone from anywhere can file a police report.

This is not completely true...I got scammed many years ago by a guy from New Jersey. I had the guy's address, telephone number, place of work, all verified, but the local police told me that NJ state law required I file a report in person. Since I live in California, at the time it would have cost me about half of what I lost, plus I would have to go back to testify against the guy.
Turns out some states make being a criminal much easier. Florida is probably at the top of the list.
boltman, these guys are playing with you because they think you're a prankster and they're prankstering back. Shut 'em up and lay it all out, emails from the scammer, everything.
And we're still waiting to hear how you won the card on Friday, paid $5000 for it, and received it on Sunday.
Lest anyone think I can't have a laugh, too ... Is Rick Diesel a WWF wrestler or a porn star? Oh wait ... I'm thinking of Dick Diesel, the well-endowed brother of Vin who went into another line of acting.

What boltman is claiming is actually somewhat conceivable. If I were a Mantle scammer, that certainly would be the route I would take to find a mark since eBay will no longer let someone run a blatent scam auction for the 52 Mantle. Message the bidders of a low grade authentic card and offer another low grade authentic card, slightly higher grade, but no competition for the card. The one thing that eBay has done by eliminating all the fraud auctions is keep the ignorant uninformed as to the extent of larceny involving 1952 Mantle's. If someone is new and has not seen what we all have seen over the past years, they would have no clue how rampant the scams are, and would be easy targets. I imagine that at least a few people who would be bidding on a SGC 10 Mantle would fall into that catagory. It only takes one for the scammer though...
So, the scammer shows him legitimate pictures, comes across as completely legitimate over the phone, and gains the trust of boltman. Boltman uses Western Union (this hasn't been mentioned, but I'd bet on it if this entire scam story is true) and sends him payment of Friday. Scammer sends boltman a package that arrives to him on Saturday. In it is a 1952 Mantle in a screw-down. Boltman doesn't know what to do, but doesn't know crap about the card and figures it might be real, so he finds a card show or shop on Sunday where they inform him the card is a fake. He spends the afternoon crying and trying to figure out what he can do, searching the internet all evening for resources, and finally stumbles across this forum, where at 4:11 AM EST makes his first post. We'll give him benefit of the doubt that he is on PST, so we'll call it 1:11 AM.
He posts a comment on here with little explanation and we're off to the races (naturally) to confirm that he's full of sh__. But, alas, the last post he made, as grammatically poor as it was, makes some sense of his situation and certainly makes it more believable.
So Boltman... here's what you should do:
1) Post everything you know about this guy & transaction... full name, mailing address, phone number, e-mail and any e-mail correspondences, method of payment, where the package was postmarked...
2) Prepare for the fact that you're out $5K and you've learned a tough lesson the hard way
yd - true as true - he's been a member of this board for almost a year and never posted. To extend the benefit of the doubt axiom, he registered and disappeared. Or he has been quietly learning about cards and absorbing what we know. Or he just wanted to rant, knowing he is S O L. Who knows? Who cares? Why would he chose this kind of vomitus to introduce himself to the board and then seemingly disappear again. He doesn't seem to respect us at all; so why should we seem to respect him?

I bought a 25-count lot of Wagners from Rick. None of them say "reprint" anywere on the card. Any tips on how to make them look "old"?
There's 4 steps I use my friend. 1) Chuck them in a hat like you do playing cards....have some fun while you're at I'd always say. 2) Let them sit out in the sun for a day or 2. 3) Potting soil and a couple drops of gas from your lawnmower for that smelly stained look. 4) Run over your cards a few time.
I have a problem with boltman claiming the police will not take his complaint cuz he is not a resident of Ohio. If that was in fact true, he could then go to HIS local police dept and file a police report there.

I had a guy (try to) rip me off for a small $$$ card last year. When I called his local police department, they told me the same thing. When I told them it was internet fraud, and that he'd gotten other people besides me, they actually listened and took care of the problem (I got the card).
internet fraud and identity theft is a top priority hot button with law enforcement agencies. The one thing they hate more than anything else is a new method of crime. This is not a good time to be trying to swindle people using the internet.

I have a problem with boltman claiming the police will not take his complaint cuz he is not a resident of Ohio. If that was in fact true, he could then go to HIS local police dept and file a police report there.
