This was the first gold coin that I bought, and it started the building of my gold type set these past few years. When gold passed $300 per ounce, I figured I'd better get started by buying one of the classic St. Gaudens. I bought this one raw as an MS-63, now it's in a PCGS MS-64 holder.
To be honest I've never been a big double eagle fan. It's probably because the series started in 1850, my main interest is in the coins from 1792 to 1807.

The coin is in an old rattler, ms63.
The coin has unbelievable cartwheel luster and is too clean for an ms 63.
I think it would stand a good chance to upgrade if resubmitted.

I'd agree -- the hits on that coin don't seem severe enough to keep it at MS-63.
