Not trying to start anything, but why is it not okay for steroid users to be considered for the hall, but pitchers who threw spitballs, shineballs, etc. are allowed in? Also, many players back in the day did try things to gain an advantage over other players, even if they didnt work, they still tried. That shows, that if steroids were around back then, they probably would have used them.
Basically what I am trying to get at, is that players have been trying to "cheat", or gain a competitive advantage for a hundred years. Why are steroid users treated differently from everyone else who tried to cheat before them? >>
To be honest, you make a valid point and I don't have an answer that would resolve this dilemma. For example, it is well-known that Ted Williams used a corked bat as did Albert Belle. One we love and the other is despised. For me, the difference is glaring intuitive. I just have a very primal negative reaction to the whole steroids era and blame the unions as well as ownership for this most damaging period in baseball history. IMO we will never have complete closure or information on every cheater (ie. I am pretty sure people like Brady Anderson and Bobby Higgenson doped to get a huge contract and then stopped with predictable results) but at this point NO ONE can doubt the substantial advantages this gave...just look at cycling which has become a joke of a sport.

Spit and pinetar aren't dangerous and illegal controlled substances
It is important that players do what they can to make themselves better players and have an advantage over the opposing team. Otherwise there would be no point to ever playing the games
But it is also important that we win the war on drugs, which can only be done by keeping people like Rafael Palmerio out of the Baseball Hall-of-Fame

Times change, as do attitudes. Who says we have to keep repeating past mistakes just for consistency's sake?
