Sorry the link wasn't showing up and then all of a sudden it was there...

  • A lot could be hidden in the pictures but it looks like an MS66 to me.......now there could be a rub as I just looked at the auction quickly...but the surfaces look real clean. Why is it raw though is it's actually a $6,000+ coin?

Oh oh, it's gonna get sniped now.

For what it's worth, it looks very nice from the image. Is there a return policy?

  • 63 or 64 -- the way the seller is holding the coin at an angle, he may be hiding some hits. Strike is too weak to get a 65.

It just sold for $170 -- between 63 and 64 money. When sellers hype a coin by saying "PCGS in 65 value $6000" that never gives me the warm and fuzzies. Usually something like this is not worth the trouble because more often than not you will get a 63 and not a 64 with this type of seller.
  • All of his other auctions have the same odd angle and all ofthe coins that are raw have the same look to them. I think I wouldstay away from this seller as a whole.

  • Doesn't look like a weak strike at all??? That's an O mint coin and I would say that stike would not hold that coin back from a 65 or 66...but I agree that holding the coin at an angle may be hiding something. From what I can see in the scan it's a 66.......it's what I can't see that would scare me away from a coin like this. I hope a forum member won it so we can see what the real deal is on it image

LOOKS like a very nice MS64, but sold for 63/64 money. (Are there hairlines we can't see in the photos?) The buyer may have gotten a buy here. Seller has too many negs for my peace of mind, too.
    When in doubt, don't.

If it's a legit auction, it looks like a nice coin. If it can make 4 it was a steal at its sale price, assuming the angles the coin is pictured at aren't hiding anything. If nothing is being hidden, it looks like a 65 if you consider the typically mushy O-mint strike.

Still, if it could make even 4, let alone 5, why sell it raw? My spidey sense is tingling here, as it usually is when something seems too good to be true.
  • You will rarely see a strike like that in a 5 holder, especially for a $3,000 coin.

Good point. If this were an '85-O or a '98-O, I'd like it's chances of making 5 even with the typical O-mint strike. But the TPGs would probably 63 this one because of the condition rarity, and maybe 4 if they felt generous.

More like an AU at PCGS; it looks like there is some "graying" in the field in front of the portrant hence the angled pic.

  • Not for $200--which it willl go for--I don't trust the angle that the picture is taken with. my max would be $100.

  • It LOOKS like a vey clean 87-O with a decent, but not great, strike. I see 2 vertical luster breaks on the cheek but the photo is just horrible and you can't tell. It might 64, 63, or even go AU--just a gamble in my opinion. With the return, it's a good price assuming you can grade it when you get it.image

  • Hmmmm. . . . . I never heard of this grading company:

    AGS "MS-67" Morgan

  • I just noticed that Terp ran the price up $40!! image

Terrapin is probably better off not winning this coin -- the more auctions I see from this seller, the less comfortable I get. The 87-O probably would have been 63 at best, 58 at worst -- a loss of at least $90.

That coin looks dull to me- an average, dipped out, 63-64 widget of a morgan- I certainly would have looked for a more original piece in a nice holder.......
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • i figured it was worth a shot with the return policy....figured anything hidden in the pics would be easy to see when coin is in hand....a took a few bids at it, but gave up.....probably better that i did....i always liked the ebay auctions that end on odd days..monday or tuesday...usually best time to get a good deal...in my experience...
