Is this auction just painful to look at?

This Ebay auction is a little busy.

Ebay

The seller, however, is in denial. See the quote from the discussion on the Currency Board:

<< I sent a politely worded question to the seller wondering if the auction would get more bids if it focused on the item being sold rather than distracting graphics yielded this response from the seller:

Response from g-carion
Item: 1917 One Dollar Legal Tender Note STAR NOTE VF-40 * XF (8314636165)
This message was sent while the listing was active.
g-carion is the seller.

It took me a while just to see what was being sold. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it.

I feel like I just went to the far reaches of the universe and back!

Editted to add: I do like how the scroll bar on the right is outlined in neon green. Never seen that before! Too bad the item flash pictures don't even show up on my computer.

This is probably true but only because everyone didn't bother to take the time.

I agree with you, this along with many other auctions are very difficult to look at. In fact, when they are like this one, I do not even bother to review it because it hurts my eyes. If I can't comfortably read the whole auction (because you never know what wording is hidden in this stuff that might come back to bite you) it gets no bids from me.

Thankfully, if you click the "larger picture" link below the small pic it jumps down t the bottom where the large pics are and skips the junk.

Actually, I just did you a favor and sent the message for you through Ebay.

I just sent him an email telling him that 75% of us don't like his graphics etc.... and to, if he pleases to put me on his blocked bidder list as I never make it past the first bit of flash anyway...
There is nothing more powerful than the power of goodbye
  • As a rule of thumb, and there are exceptions, flashy graphics like that, and animation such as "coins on a conveyer belt" usually indicate the merchendise is overgraded, AT, problem, or third world slab crap.

Also, who in their right mind would send a check made out to "Cash"?

I requested that I be put on his blocked bidder list also. Not that I actually use my Ebay account anyway.

If he's retired and still going by "Major" it indicates he may be wrapped a little too tight--which might account for the reaction to your suggestion.

    Edited to clarify.

I'm a bit bored here towards the end of the work day so I decided to send the seller this e-mail as well, maybe he/she will get a clue:

<< <i>I just want you to know you are losing more business than you can imagine by attacking people with questions about your auctions. Word spreads very fast and hundreds or even thousands of coin and currency collectors are seeing you for the eBay crap-seller you are. Not only are your auctions in desperate need of improvement, but so is your attitude. Please take the opportunity to add me to your "Power Sellers Buyer Block List" as well. Also, feel free to join the ongoing conversation regarding your auctions at http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=409074&STARTPAGE=2 Thank you,

Why would you take it out? I think that billboat was saying that it's not cool on HIS part to use his rank in business dealings if he's on active duty, if I understand him correctly.
  • Tim--I wasn't being critical of you--he's the one who signed his email--all you did is post it. I was offering a guess as to why he couldn't handle a helpful suggestion.

With all respect, I disagree with you. How he chooses to run his business is, after all, his business. You have no stake in the matter--why not just click the back button and walk away?
Having said that, I'm shocked he would block you simply for submitting your opinion on the esthetics of his page. Doesn't sound like a very nice person.

  • This is now the worst auction format listing I've seen on eBay, just for fun I asked to be put on the seller's blocked list too, not that I'd ever bid on anything from them, for many reasons, but the format is such a big red flag.

Don't forget that a check made out to "Cash" must be sent insured or registered as it may be legally cashed by ANYONE.

  • I got a reply to my ebay message to this guy. I don't think there's any hope that he's listened to sane advice to change his auction format. Oh well, he's a power seller so I guess he knows what he's doing, doesn't he?

<< <i>These comments were stared by User: ( YAABAH ) auction number: 8314134165 after we posted a reply to his question one e.bays internal mail system. He was running down our auction site and we found out that he had the three negative feedbacks in twelve months. So we took the opportunity to put him on our block buyer list. Since Then We have received eight more today request from outer e.byer's on the very same auction 8314136165 requesting to be put on the list also. And these questions don't state which e.bayer is sending them unless you look at the e. mails details. This Has To Stop Now And Quick, Not Your Normal Seven Day Return E. Mail Turn Around Time. We Just Received Two More filing this first complaint.

Actually, it's probably a good thing his auction format is horrendous, his stuff and prices don't seem that great anyway. I don't think I'd want to buy from this guy for any reason, and I bet a lot of people do click back real fast before they have a seizure. In the end, he's driving people away from his auctions, and I say, let him.

edited because i hit return too fast

I hope you didn't reply Russ, because they said

<< <i>This Has To Stop Now And Quick >>

    .
That means no one should visit their eBay auction and click ask seller a question and ask silly questions or generally waste their time.

Am I clear? You SHOULD not visit this their eBay auction and annoy the seller with frivolous questions. I don't know if this link directly to ask seller a question will work, but you SHOULD not use it to be annoying, this guys wants This To Stop Now And Quick. If you get a response from him you SHOULD not reply to it and try to string him along either.

It's more fun to have him put on his blocked bidder list. It also provides you with protection if you have a weak moment and decide to bid on one of his auctions.
