Coins on vacation?

Does anyone besides me take their favorite--new coins with them when they go on vacation? Just to have and look at while they are away from their collection? I just got a great VF30 1841 seated Liberty Dollar from Longtimecollector that I'll have to take with me for the next few weeks while I'm traveling through Nebraska, Colorado. Utah and Arizona . Am I the only one?

Could be. Now, Nebraska, I can see, anything to take your mind off that, but Colorado? BTW, the Colorado sunlight is well known for being the best for natural coin imaging, so you may be doing the right thing.

    Yes.

Give it a rest. You are suppose to be on vacation......... Next year, send the family and YOU stay home and look at coins. May I suggest "Coin Collectors Anamous" - CCA.

I love coins, but I don't like them that much.

Enjoy your vacation with "your coins" and Family.
  • Thanks!--guess I'll give it a rest--but I do like to look at my most recent accquisition.

Do you take them to bed and sleep with them under your pillow? image

  • Billboat,

Don't feel bad...I take some of my favorite coins on vacation with me. It is no different as when people take their lucky penny or rabbit's foot with them everywhere. I often take them so if I find a coin shop while I am on vacation I can compare and buy more coins. Trust me, there are plenty of other things that people do with their coins...that I won't mention on this forum. To each his own. Do what you like, not what everybody else thinks is cool. DO IT...DO IT.

I travel with a UNC 1907 NM $10 St. Gaudens. Often I am gone for days, even weeks at a time on a job, I deal with all kinds of crazy people and situations, and having a coin like that in my hotel safe helps calm me down every evening. Better than whiskey.

One time I went to the Carribean island of Anguilla with my wife. Just to stay centered, I brought along a 1914-D $5.00 with me. I had such a great time, I never thought of nor looked at the coin once!

I bring a book or two to quench my coin appetite -

I can think of all sorts of excellent reasons not to carry coins around with me.
