I don't know that series to be able to offer a worthwhile opinion, but that is one of those coins that I would want in a slab if I was thinking of purchasing......

I'm with Myggy, do you know the seller?

    My Collection of Old Holders

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
  • No, I am not familiar with seller....and yes, I know better about buying unslabbed coins on Ebay (and maybeeven slabbed ones too!), but this caught my eye.....just not sure about it though....

It's not prudent to try to "buck" the odds on that buck/dollar.

Nothing screams "fake" to me, but I still maintain a healthy skepticism toward this coin. It might even be real, but it might also be a high-quality transfer die counterfeit. But there ain't no way I'm touching a raw bust dollar on eBay.

If it's a fake, it's a pretty convincing one, at least when looking just at an image.

Looking at my Breen Encyclopedia, the reverse looks like a dead-ringer for the plate coin for Breen 5380 but I can't seem to identify a match for the obverse. (Maybe someone with a Bolender or Bowers-Borckardt reference would fare better.)
  • If I read it right, it looks to be a 13 star, Small Eagle and according to the PCGS price guide it would be worth about $950.00 to over $22,000. But what do I know, I am new at this.image

<< <i>If I read it right, it looks to be a 13 star, Small Eagle.. >>

    It's a heraldic/large eagle, not a small one.
  • For that kind of money, I'd prefer to look at the Cardinal Dollars up for auction at ARN Sale upcoming!!

Doesn't make XF for me. Why would anyone spend that kind of money on such a coin RAW?image
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
  • Definitely a large eagle, and definitely not (IMHO) XF.....it does have the right look in the photo though......
    Morgannut....do you mean ANR??

I guess it looks OK to me (ignoring the stated grade and the price).

If it's bogus, it would've fooled me.

    I like the color.

I would not buy it. Raw Eighteenth century coins on eBay=Trouble.
