1892 Canada Cents - Obverse Varieties

I put this together for myself, but I thought others might find it interesting. 1892 is the only year where Canada large cents were made with three different obverses.

Since I had to shrink the previous picture to get it under 50KB, I thought these might provide a little more detail. image

Obverse #3 with the angry look and the double chin is not a very flattering one, even in MS65 RD. image

Obverse #3 was used exclusively in 1890 (1890-H). Both obverse #2 and obverse #3 were made in 1891 (making a total of six 1891 varieties - LDLL, SDLL, SDSL in both obverses). 1892 was made in obverse #2, obverse #3, and obverse #4. After that only obverse #4 was used.

The fact that obverse #3 was only used for three years, and sparingly at that, I think was directly related to the unflattering portrait of HRH.
