Coin World or Numismatic News?

I was thinking of subscribing again, but don't want to get both. Why do you think one or the other is better?

I get both and am on the fence over them...either one is fine. I voted for coin world because there are more ads and they have basically the same content otherwise. Biggest difference is the Coin Values magazine that comes with.

I subscribe to both and I've just extended my NN by 3 years. You get two (2) free 2005 Silver Eagles for a 3-year ($90) subscription. They normally ask you to renew at $83/3 years, but I figure the extra $7 was worth it for the 2 ounces of silver.

I subscribe to both, along with about twenty to thirty other (some coin, most not) weekly and monthlies. My mail carrier hates me. image
  • Coin World because of the Trends addition once a month.

Yeah, but you do realize that the NN's version of this happens to be a bit more "accurate" and liked by more collectors. They also have a lot of "wrong" valuations, but it seems that Trends is too high on most material.

Coin World, comes out once a week and always 100+ pages....Thre QDB column alone is worth it!

  • I read both concurrently for about 3 years. Droppped NN, CoinWorld has 3x the content.

    I get both.
Some of the stuff is the same, but I like some parts of NN more than CW (and vice-versa).
If I were to decide on only 1, it would likely be CW as it is larger and more reading.
With the NN, I can be done and through the coin-related articles in under 15-30 minutes most times.

I do like their weekly numbers for the current mint-related sales though.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    Neither !!

Just look at the advertisements in these and who some of the dealers are. Just how many new collectors have been shystered by these people and the magazines do nothing about the problem.

That's a great deal. The only problem is they only offer 1-year deals.

I'd give you the world, just because...

and the blackness when the dream dies, of lovers, fools, adventurers and kings while I sip my wine and contemplate the Chi.

I get both but tend to like Coin World a little better.

Just my humble opinion but....Coin World is to filet mignon as Numismatic News is to a soyburger.

I recently subscribed to Numismatic News and received a beautiful 2004 SAE as a gift - pretty much covered the cost of the subscription.

They both have merits. I currently subscribe to both publications.

I think NN allows free advertising for local shows, so I have better odds of finding those in NN. It is the 'underdog' of the two, yet provides great articles and possibly a cheaper rate.

Coin World has a bit more content, QDBowers column as previously mentioned, more ads, etc. It feels like the more polished publication.

It's nice getting both as a comparison...over time I hope to figure out why I occasionally get (2) NN's at a time...like today I got the June 14th and June 21 issue at the same time image Not sure if that is a postal thing or what...

Numismatic News is less expensive and more "folksy" in its approach (the Mishler columns are a good example of this.) Coin World tends to cover hard news better. Both cover US new issue information well. Coin World's cost is higher, probably due to the inclusion of Coin Values once a month. I wish Coin World had not gone the Coin Values route and stuck with the old "Trends" instead.

Personally, Numismatic News covers the basics I need so I will opt for it due to its lower cost. My Coin World subscription is up in a few weeks and I am not renewing.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • Look like CW is the clear winner. To bad neither is on Discount Magazines.
