How many sets are you working on?
![Sylvestius](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/defaulticon/pdefault.gif)
Currently as everyone knows i'm working on these sets; (plus progress report in brackets got/to get)
1) English Anglo-Saxon pennies by monarch 871-1016 (1/9) [coin 2 reserved]
2) English Henry VI first coinage (1422-27) type set (2/8)
3) German 5 reichspfennigs in UNC 1936A-1944A (3/9)
4) ?????? (New set coming Soon) ??????* (See * below)
Those are what i consider my 'Primary Collection' and i 'regularly' purchase coins for these sets.
However i do also have two 'Secondary Collections' which are dormant sets that i only keep for trading purposes, i used to do alot of trades with US members and instead of messing about with cash it proved easier for to trade.
5) Washington Quarters raw in UNC (blast white) 1940P-1964P
6) UK Bronze coins 1971-1984 in BU
*With regards to the 4th Primary collection above, well i can't tell you much about that yet as i'm still working out the parameters i want to work within. I'm not sure whether to stick to the one denomination, one metal group, or to do them all as the period i have chosen is only one decade in length. What i can tell you is that this collection will be a liteside collection as i am keen to return to liteside collecting after a year or two break. Although it will run alongside my three darkside collections so don't worry i haven't defected!![image](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif)
I'm trying to keep my collection diverse, i'm trying to involve countries beyond the UK and take different approaches in each one; horizontal type sets, vertical type sets and date sets. My new tendency is to also focus on shorter sets of about a dozen coins maximum as i find these less daunting than say sets that run for several decades, which i usually always lose interest in only a few coins in, due to the fact it looks unachievable!
I also fancy sticking a French coin collection together at some stage, but that's for the future.
So how many sets do you have on the go? And do you have some sets that are dormant or sets that are ongoing but not considered part of your main focus but are side sets?

I don't know anything about Canadian coins but that'd be 1937 to presumably 1951 or 1952 no?

George VI coinages is from 1937 to 1952.
<< <i>George VI coinages is from 1937 to 1952. >>
I had to ask on the latter date because some George VI issues in some countries didn't issue coins dated 1952 because of the king's death early in the year.
I've got a soft spot for George VI coins because i remember getting them in change and on all except one occasion they were the oldest coins i ever came across in circulation.
1a) to the above I add a few British Cyprus coins ,and a complete Ionian (1819-1862) set. Also a complete set from Crete (1900-1901), this is almost over
2) my new side one, a Federal (1850-1968) Swiss unc type set in a Dansco album , I got a few nice ones today
3) also new, Federal Swiss 1 franc coins, preferrably already in PCGS slabs and in gem grades only
last year I was filling my two Whitman British albums 1902-1970 in unc, from farthing to sixpence and from shilling to crown,
finished although I still need a 1927 proof FDC crown that's missing
and along with these I have the 1901 Victorian set of which I miss the sovereign.
Here and there I buy a little gold and large (27-30 mm) red copper coins from the world whenever I have the chance such as this nice Taisho sen (65 rd)
I have also started a few others but decided to abandon them, one of them was early US silver commems again in a Dansco album, I got about 20 ,but then I changed my mind.

<< <i>I'm new to the Darkside and contemplating where to begin. I already have many German and Austrian coins dating back to the 1800's. I am wondering if I should sell off the Canadian proof sets I have and concentrate on Europe. I would like to start collecting Great Britain next year perhaps. Advice is much needed here. I would like to collect coins that I can get somewhat of a return on if I go to sell. If I like the direction my collection is going I will most definately keep. Do I sell off the Canadian and go Europe? >>
European hey? I dunno about much of a return investment but i can point you in the direction of alot of nice British coins should you wish.
Try Gothic Florins.
Even if you had, it's still Darkside to you Sylvestius, so were the US commems to me.

<< <i>Yes, the British coins I like very much. I will most definately start a collection next year. I sold off some items in my current collection and began a new. The return is not so much important to me as long as I enjoy their beauty. >>
Victorian coins always go down well for beauty, but i would point you towards early milled 1662-1815 coin.
Sixpences are good, smart little fellers;
Here's my old collection
I sold them all recently whwen i moved into medieval hammered coins.

My omnicoin collection (or how my coin photography has progressed)
1. All 3,500 or so medals relating to Napoleon Bonaparte produced during his lifetime. Any condition, always upgrading. I have about 700-800 of these currently.
2. At least one coin from each of the several hundred mints in operation in Europe from 1789-1815. In practise that covers nearly all the countries, principalities, archbishoprics, etc. who had their own coinage.
3. At least one coin from all those countries, etc. who had a foreign mint produce their money (again 1789-1815). Not that many but it happened.
4. Then one example of each type coin.
5. And finally one from each year that each type was produced.
For items 2 -> 5 I have hundreds of coins with literally thousands to go. Either I need to free up more money for this hobby or I'm going to have to live a loooonnngg time...
For item 1 I'm beginning to also collect the variants I've been able to identify. These were totally uninteresting to the original catalogers unless they ended up looking significantly different. However I estimate that may expand category one by 50%.
You want how much?!!
