The Italian Lire arrived from NEN today

It is a great coin that fits perfectly in my collection. I really like the toning on the obverse. I like it better then I do the toning on the reverse but it is still very nice. My pics suck compared to those of NEN but here they are anyway.

I have always wondered if NEN's photos are exaggerating the colours or not. Are they? I see a great coin in both pictures btw.

If anything, NEN's images are usually washed out...at least that has been my experience in viewing them

The colors in NEN's pics are all there but a little more subtle unless they are in the right lighting. That is why I had such a hard time getting them to show up. Then again I always have problems getting toners to look like they do in hand unlike some of the members here. One of these days I will figure it out.

Try messing around with the lighting, lighting angles, etc.
I think your pics are good. Now, which set of pics most accurately reflects the coin's actual colors?

You may want to check out This Thread for a great method of capturing toning ... done by our very own (and now PCGS's) Darkhorse It's how I finally got the colors right.

NEN's pics show the color very accurately in the right lighting. My pics show the hits more then NEN's because I knew that there was no way my pics would ever be able to show the colors like NEN's.

I love that coin, I have a less nice one myself, looks great nice colors, taking pictures though a slab is a pain in the butt, which I pressume you are...
