HWCA results thread

Internet bidding tonight. I am current high bidder on 5 of 11 lots I bid on with 3 that will be exceeded by the next bid.

Now the anticipation begins.

Post your pre- and post auction results here. Good luck!

I pre-bid on two and am still high on both. I plan on also being a floor bidder at two of the sessions.

Mine's pretty simple. Bid on zero, will win zero image

Bid on two, and was outbid on one of them. The anticipation of winning is matched by the anxiety of paying!

  • I had about half a dozen bids in, but lost in all of them but one, will see what happens on the floor, still have some bids in for the next session.

I technically won four bids at Goldberg's auction, if they got my faxed bids....... imageimage

    We'll see what happens.... image

I won this Swiss lot :1861 franc PCGS MS65, and I would have won this lot by an easy margin had I not retracted my bid around 36 hours before the auction. I decided that I was very uncomfortable paying this kind of amount for a set I can't see in hand, and basically I felt uncomfortable spending this much anyway, despite the rarity of the set.A very difficult decision, fortunately Heritage was very understanding about it.

That was a neat set, very nice, I wonder how good of an investment it may be in a few years regardless of the 'collector' factor?

I have never gone to the 5 figure mark for a coin or set, though I certainly have invested 5 figures in all I have......

There seemed to be far fewer post auction buys from the HWCA than the US auction....

Difficult to say Glenn. Last time it was sold in 1999 for about $12750 and before that, Pittman had acquired it from Spink in 1956 as an original proof set, for $18.20! It's not the kind of item that sees the market often, I could picture myself buying it because of its beauty and rarity, a set to be proud of, but I wouldn't count on it as an investment. Therefore I decided that I don't have this luxury,at least not yet.image
