I remember seeing them for the first time on eBay I guess two years ago. They went for stupid money-like $300.00 per coin I think. I would be willing to spend $100.00 for a set ranging from cent through dollar, though.

At this price it won't be long before someone starts manufactoring them using real quarters as raw material.

I think they are pretty neat. I wouldn't mind having one but not for that kind of price.

Put a quarter on the railroad tracks and you can have a pancake coin to go with it.

It's funny that the mint did this of as a way of junking bad coins. They should just give them away at mint tours and other PR events to make them common enough that a secondary market wouldn't bring much. It would be a fun give away. I'd like to have one (for free of course).

Putting them in slabs is just lame.

I think the waffle coins are sort of neat, but I would never spend that kind of money for one.

I agree with some here that they are kinda neat, but the price is waaaaay outta line in my opinion.
If the cancelled coin has the details like the one in the picture that would be great, but, most i've seen are almost completely void of strike details. They look like smooth planchet cancellations. image

Its a post minting alteration. Someone is going to start making these using state quarters as the raw materials.
