Guess the grade on the morgan OR wow what a morgan!!!

nwcsnwcs Posts: 13,386 ✭✭✭
I just got this from Steve today (rkfish). It's absolutely gorgeous and just stunning in real life. I'm going to give some props for Steve, too. I asked him about this coin Sunday night and I have it here today.

Wow, I thought it was a proof until the screen scrolled down to the S mint mark. Now if the other dates just came 1/2 as nice, that would be something!!image I have no idea whether PCGS is giving out DMPLs today if there are polish lines. They we're last month!image, but it's a new month.image

Well, I guess this isn't as popular today as other things... But it is a 66PL.

Ditto on thinking it was a proof until seeing the mintmark.

    I would go with MS65DMPL

What is with all the fine lines on the reverse? Im not trashing. I have one with lines like that and thought it had been cleaned??????
If I was half as smart as I am dumb Iwould be a genious

Those are die polish lines on the reverse. It's very common on PL and DMPL coins. It's where the prooflike look comes from.

    nwcs ...

    WOW!! beautiful coin ... image

you could almost shave using those obverse mirrors image

I'm not a Morgan collector, nor do I know how to grade them well, but based on the pictures, I also thought at first it was a proof (until the S showed up), and would have guessed it to be a 65DMPL

    Very pretty coin!!

Nice coin! I'll WAG at MS66PL
  • Very nice. Every Morgan collector should own something like this.

Don't you love the Morgan series? It gives a lot of variety. One time it is a cameo pl and the next time it is a satin smooth luster and then its a frosty white and then a colorful blazer and the list goes on...........enjoy this one. It may be "common" but wouldn't every series like to have a common coin like this as part of the collection?
  • WOW what a Morgan...schweet
  • 65DMPL

    its a wow
i guess i can see PL since the reverse isnt quite what the obverse is in field reflection (mirrors)
i,d say 65 on it though.
i mean ,look at it! is that not a gem?...from the pics?

64 DMPL. 65 from some people????
  • I really like it! I also like dealing with Larry and Steve. Anyway that Morgan looks to have really nice reflective fields. The devices are clearly extra frosty. So DMPL for sure in my book. Since marks are so much more apparent on cameos I would guess 65 DMPL. Naturally I am rarely surprised when I'm off by a point!

64 PL is my guess. Reverse a little light for DMPL -- but it may be the lighting of the photo...Mike

I'm seeing alot of MS64 votes but one needs to understand that mirrored fields are very susceptible to grazings and contact marks and they show up worse when present. This coin appears to have A+ eye appeal. If it's graded MS64PL, I'd pay MS65DMPL+ Money for it. NWCS, that is one awsome coin.

I would not care what the holder says it is an outstanding coin.

But if I were to make a wag I would go MS66DMPL. My first thought was MS67DMPL but I think there is too much chatter on the cheek to get the 67.
