    I'll go with $85 & $170 respectively.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Yeah, you took it in the shorts on the 1954...image

I had looked at it earlier in the day and then forgot to check back.

Does it sound any better if you say it went for 100x face?? image

But there are people in other threads saying you get the best prices on eBay. Sure hasn't worked that way for me.

Looks like you got $25 for the quarter and $107.50 for the dime.

I see prices on Heritage range from $65 to $127 for the dime, admittedly the last one selling June 2004.

Russ had a 1947-S Quarter that sold tonight for around $27, and it had fantastic toning. Maybe a bad e-bay night for some reason?

Ebay just continues to go downhill, no matter how much the supporters of eBay will tell you otherwise. The constant fraud, and eBay's lack of curtailing it, is causing buyers to leave in droves. I will no longer sell there, and I'm not the only one. Ebay killed the golden goose.
  • I have sold probably a hundred items in the last few weeks and I only lost money on two.......I have a lot of success on Ebay selling every collectible know to man.......but you can't win them all and I think you are kidding yourself if you think that fraud or anything else for that matter is driving away a lot of buyers or seller. For every one that leaves another one or two take their place. Ebay isn't perfect...but it isn't going anywhere either. image

That's fine Shane, but after my experiences there the last couple years, I'm not selling there anymore.

I believe that the summer has much to do with it. Sales just suck in the summer months on coins. I am hoarding my resale coins, and will sell them all between Nov and Feb.

tonight is when all the 10c listings from tuesday that listed for 5 days closed. Hence, high volume on ebay.
Probably not the best night for top dollar.

Tuesday is when all the 7day listings 10c listings will close.

On tuesday, when listings stuff, I was watching alot of stuff close realitively cheap.
Picked up some silver eagles for about 1.40 above melt, delivered.

A lot of people were busy trying to get there stuff listed, and watching the new buy-it-now
    listings show up, perhaps.

I guess Free/10c listings day is good, if you set your minimum to the minimum you want. I know some
of the things I listed with $250 minimum would have usually cost 4.80 (?) to list, but only cost 10c.
Maybe they don't sell, but even if they don't they will be ready to relist.

Perhaps the best way to make money on Free / 10c listing day is to look for things closing underpriced
and things being listed buy - it - now by non-dealers. Perhaps you can make more money that way then
by trying to be one of the rush of sellers.

I did list about 50 items. Some have sold, others might have usually but got lost in the crowd.

  • Well as someone has pointed out, my auctions sold for much less than expected. This is the first time this has happened to me. I have 100% positive feedback, low shipping, short and to the point descriptions, a return policy, .99 NR, good photos etc, etc...i.e. all the things that I learned here in order to have succesfful auctions, and until tonight, I've realized more than expected on several coin auctions. Why is tonight different? I was the only guy with coins like this for sale on ebay, new sunday auctions are sparse due to the upcoming holiday, and I had good advertising. Maybe teletrade stole some thunder? Nevertheless I will not let tonight's results turn me off from ebay.

    $25 25C

maybe I should just shut up and be happy I got anything at all!! image

CC - I've been there! I've had nights where I got a lot more than I expected, and other nights where I got creamed! No rhyme or reason as far as I can tell.

Example: 1928-P PCGS MS66RD Lincoln - Sells on ebay for $420. Two days later, same date/mm/grade goes for $299. From the pics, I thought the latter one looked better than the first one. Go figure!!

I am a professor in a graduate school of business teaching financial markets and investments. Believe me, ebay is NOT an efficient market!!

go figure, I am a graduate student in business (almost done), and we learned a bit about efficient markets. According to the efficient market hypothesis, If ebay was efficient, then I would have received no more or less than expected since I provided as much information as possible (including insider information such as my reputation on this forum). The EMH does not hold when it comes to ebay as I found out tonight!

How about this? Here are the prices on ebay for the last 2 years or so for a 1931-S PCGS65RD Lincoln (oldest to most recent):

    $575.00 $480.00 $296.00 $545.55 $341.00 $497.00 $401.55 $510.00 $625.00 $500.95 $555.99 $575.67 $515.05 $621.21 $570.00 $475.00 $515.05 $475.00 $565.00 $451.07 $480.00 $636.00 $725.00 $566.00 $530.00 $556.90 $555.00 $550.00 $669.99 $641.99 $525.00

Average is $533.13 (about right for this one, I think), but huge variation! Range is $429 and standard deviation is $88.77.

There are so many examples of this in my ebay database - I just picked one sort of at random. I'm sure there are many more examples that show more variation.

When I sell on ebay, I'm hoping for good results, but I never count on it.

  • maybe people did not like the eye appeal of that quarter. may not have been for everyone. no offense, but I probably would have passed, but to each his own.
  • Dont feel too bad -- I got worked as well! It aint fun unless its a no reserve .99 start!

Sometimes you're the bat, and some times you're the ball.

I'm still waaaaaayyyy ahead of the Ebay game though!

You would find a similar statistical variation at major auctions. There it is often based on the sight seen quality of the coin, other times from just plain old variations. The same is probably true from ebay though here the quality variations are perceived from a photograph or the type of holder (and age of the holder).

A part of it is having your listing up on eBay at a time when a willing buyer with cash is looking.

No problem there...each person has their own experiences to judge buy and if you have seen a decline in sales performance...I don't blame you for switching to other outlets.
