a gem of a sen

I despair of ever showing how nice some small coins are because the macro feature on my camera will not do the job without a macro lens (which I don't have). This coin gleams with luster which simply doesn't show in these images. Regardless, it's one of the nicest, most colorful 10 sen that I have seen.

I can't make out the detail of the "mei" character. Is it a Type I or a Type II?

(BTW, if it's Type II, how much do you want for it?image )

  • The color is great. So many of those have an unattractive brown mottled toning. I t`s great to see one with nice colorful even toning.

Satootoko, this appears to be a type 1, with the character sen connected-sorry...I don't know if that's any better, but these images while clearer don't show the vibrancy of the coin.

Laurent, is this your white hair on the reverse? Is coin photography aging you that much? image

Head is dark, beard is white but what you're seeing is a light scratch across the outside of the 2 x 2.image

    Nice coin!

I didn't even know there was a type II for Meiji 28. Maybe it's a good thing I'm not buying Japanese coins now. image
