Worlds Columbian Expo Elongated - Many new ones - Updated 5/26/06

tmot99tmot99 Posts: 5,238 ✭✭✭
Here are pictures of my type set. I am working on obtaining a VERY cool addition that I will have to share at a later time. There are things here for all parties (except moderns - can't do anything about that). Now that I've put the pictures on another server, maybe you can see them now....

Update 6/27 - I just added the 3CN and have an 1866 Shield nickel with rays on it's way. It should be here towards the end of the week.
Update 7/1 - I have now posted the 1866 Shield nickel.
Update 1/25/06 - I have added the 1870 Spanish Diez Centimos
Update 2/7/06 - Now added a large cent. This is a Matron Large Cent. I think it is a 1825 but it is very hard to tell.
Update 2/21/06 - I will be adding the 5 coins shown at the bottom of the thread. I will post here when I and upload my photos.
Update 2/27/06 - The coins have now been added. The ones I like the most of this bunch are the Bank of Upper Canada and the Bread Token
Update 3/23/06 - Added 1882 Canadian dime.
Update 3/29/06 - Added Kagin Collection
Update 5/26/06 - Just added a bunch of new ones and upgraded a few too! Thanks to Rich Hartzog of www.exonumia.com. Really great guy to work with and a boatload of information on all sorts of exonumia. I've talked to him about Mint medals, so-called dollars, and slave badges/tags.

HOLY COW! That's an incredible collection! Love the Indian Cent and the Canadian Large Cent.

I'd rank that one right up with seanq's clipped cent collection.

PS. Good luck on the "VERY cool addition". Could be a one-of-a-kind!

I have heard of someone that had a 1889 3cent piece that was stretched for the columbian expo. It would make a great addition to your collection. I don't have a picture though.

Thanks for the compliments. I hope that I can continue to find nice pieces to add to my set. I don't want to make this a BST board, but if anyone has any knowledge of other peices available, please let me know.

    Thanks.

Neat set. If anyone is interested there is an 1892 Columbian NGC 64 PL on Ebay right now at a very low BN price. I do have a little concern about the toning but the price is very low for a Columbian that actually has the NGC designation "prooflike". The seller deals in all kinds if neat coin envelopes and other coin memorabilia.

    Uber-groovy!

I remember reading about an 1876 double-dime elongated at the Columbian Expo in one of David Bowers' books. For the past 20+ years I've thought about how I'd like to find that coin somewhere.

Keep us posted when you find others.

Someone smashed a seated quarter. I wonder which one is worth more, the quarter unsmashed or the 1893 expo one.

Just posted pictures of my large cent. I was very happily surprised when I got it today and see that it is a MATRON large cent. Look at the flat face from the nose to the crown. I have it listed as an 1825, but have to say that it is very difficult to see what the date is on this coin.

There are some really wild foreign elongates on eBay right now...

the seller on ebay is a friend of mine. He has been a collector of WCE items for many many years. It sounds like his health isn't as good as it should be so he is focusing his collecting efforts and selling off his elongateds. I will be aggressively bidding on these foreign elongateds, but still expect to lose most of them. He had a bunch up last week that I bid 2 times higher than what they should have sold for and was still outbid. I could have afforded to go higher, but it just isn't worth it. I will find others through other avenues.
