Cruzi, one of the reasons that silver has been prized for so long is that very reason. I've pulled 130-year old silver out of the ground that looked like it was dropped yesterday. A modern clad coin coming out of the ground after 3 years can be dark black. That's why your heart skips a beat when you see that glint in the bottom of your hole (plug)--you know instantly that you've found silver.
That's not to say they aren't faking something. But the final picture above is certainly the "after" picture. I'm sure those coins have been washed at the very least.
Edit - just searched on eBay, and wire kopeks from this period bring a whopping $10 to $20 each.
