Anyways, I'm done, I'm sure you'll have something amusing to say now Gemmy, so go ahead.

They should all retire but they won't....because they are being paid too much money. Wouldn't you like to be in that situation. Time for new blood.

This needing new blood is what has kept the NBA fresh with young players...and why the more established players in the NBA are wanting to implement an age minimum...it will limit the number of new players coming in
Umps are no longer giving you that pitch 1 foot off the outside corner so give it up chief.....please
I think he tries to throw too many fast balls in the beginning and that gets him into trouble. He can't hit the high 90's like he did before right now. Notice how well he settles down after throwing a few pitches (after the first). He had one bad inning. I think he needs to rely on his off speed stuff for now and work on the fast ball before relying on it again. David Cone made the transition and now I think Brown should too. He needs to regain his confidence.
As for Glavine....this was suppose to be his month. He pitches well in April. I don't get how he lost 4 games already. Have they changed the strike zone or what? The guy has always been a finesse pitcher, so I don't know what to advise.

<< <i>Kerry Wood, the most overrated pitcher in major league baseball. >>
Cubfan, I sense anger in your words. Or is that just me reading your sentence? Anyway, Wood has gotten a pretty tough break and has been mismanaged. He is as hard headed as they come though. He is too young to retire.

I'm surprised that on this strongly opposed Rafael Palmeiro board, no one has mentioned Raffy. As many of you know, he is one of my favorites, but he has been stinking it up this year. Now, he is 40 (soon to be 41?) and his bat speed has slowed. It is taking a toll on his game. I sure hope if he continues the way he has this year, he makes this his last year. He can finish with 3,000 hits 550+ homers and go home to the hall of fame.

Stingray
I know both the Mets and Yanks were interested in him at one point.
was Detroit asking too much for him at the time ?
He is a hard headed pitcher who wont change his mechanics to save his arm. He pitches about 2-3 months at a time and breaks down. He wont ever win 20 games, he probably wont ever win 15 in a season. If he hasnt already, he will surely spend more time on the DL than off.
I dont think Raffy is overrated in the least. He just suffered from playing in Texas and Baltimore. Had he been a Yankee, he would be King Rafael now.

He had some great years with the Braves, but he does look to be done at this point. He had to get 20 gazillion instead of 19.5 gazillon the Braves were willing to pay him. Very gratifying to see the Braves wallop him everytime he pitches against them.
<< <i>Is Ricky Henderson playing somewhere? >>
Nope. Still says he is waiting on an opportunity, but hope he is retired.

Kall Malone;
Almost all the players not 2nd or 3rd off the bench in basketball;
Al MacInnis...not because he should physically but because he could lose his eye pretty easily with another hard hit.

Last I heard He was with the Newark bears about 6 months ago. I'm surprised no one picked him up last year.
Clemens. Guy's only got one win in 6 starts, just ridiculous! I think he's going to need to do better then allowing 6 runs in 6 games. If he can't shut people out anymore for more then 7 innings how does he expect to win?
I hope you're being sarcastic.
Another another month of lame hitting, and the typical nagging injury that usually comes along to 40+ year olds, he may not reach 3,000 hits. That would be sweet, then I wouldn't have to hear the ill-informed talk on how you can't ignore 3,000 hits and 500 home runs from him. Reality is that you can, and most definately should ignore HIS 3,000 hits and 500 Home runs. Well, not ignore, but at least put them into proper perspective that most do not.
The Orioles success could actually hurt him, as his manager should do the right thing and play people who are better than him so they can win. Even in his prime the man was usually the 40th-ish best player in the league. Now he shouldn't be playing at all.

On that same note...how many times did you wince at Cal Ripken Jr. enforcing his will to play every day, when he'd go through some horrific stretches...when all he needed was a game off to reenergize. However, that was his deal, and the Orioles franchise let him.
Raffy is up there though of the guys that needs to hang it up, and go sell the little purple pill that he's so enamored of.
4-5 with a GRAND SALAMI
Even though his #'s are low this year he's still hitting the ball hard. He hit some balls to deep center in Shea in April that would've definetly been out later in the year.
He'll never hit for the #'s he once did but he can still help the team win some ballgames
<< <i>He'll never hit for the #'s he once did but he can still help the team win some ballgames >>
I agree he can still hit, but he gave up three more stolen bases today. I believe he's now 3-30 throwing runners out. I think it's time for him move on to the AL and DH.
I've never seen a catcher bounce so many throws to second in my life lol . But the man can still swing the bat
Cal's playing everyday during his prime is a different topic...too bad all the best players weren't mentally tough enough to play everyday. You get six months off in the regular season. It drives me crazy when I see a superstar get a routine day off in APRIL!!!! That is a mental midget! Guys like Ripken, and Pete Rose, wanted to play EVERY day, and they basically did! And they played pretty well. Eddie Murray was another guy who played everyday, unless hurt enough not to(which was rare). Their philosophy(Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken, AND Pete Rose) was them at 85% will be easily better than a bench player at 100%. And that philosophy is correct for PLAYERS OF THEIR STATUS. Obviously it did not hurt them in the long run either, as they were among the very top players of their generation.
I'm just pulling for Raffy to continue to falter(even though he may catch a good streak soon), but maybe it is the end? The baseball gods will decide it
He's seen 2 pitches tonight and sent both of them out of the park lol
6 straight hits the last 2 night with 3 hr's in a row
Over the course of 162, EVERY player needs a rest. You can't sit there and tell me that he was the BEST SS option for that team everyday for his stretch. Yes it's admirable that he wanted to play every day, but I know on more than one occasion he'd play his 5 innings then come out (flu, minor injury, whatever). That to me screams selfishness.
